It's always a pleasure spending time with you Darryn. The box looks lovely and more importantly it does the job you wanted it to. Way back when I was learning woodwork at school (close to half a century ago) we were taught to always use the actual item to measure with when possible as it invariably leads to a better fit.

Excellent episode! I do have a request however. As I watch your episodes I can't help but notice all the different tools you have hanging on the wall around your workspace. I wonder if you might do an episode telling us what they all are, what they do, and when and how you use them? That would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

Dabbing with a brush to apply glue makes so much sense, wow!

A very useful pair of videos, thank you. Yes please to razor boxes: I've made a few of these but I'm a cabinetmaker and my method was definitely eccentric. Incidentally, the configuration of your ball vice box is vaguely suggestive of the inner case for a ship's chronometer. Fanciful, yes, but it's a nice word. 🙂

Suggestion: A hardfoam with a round opening in the middle glues inside of the lid would avoid the ball tumbling while carried around.

I think Tophatbox are both logical and sounds good. Thanks for the video and I will be looking for the next one 😊

Another great video. The little tip at the end about the different heights and filling it with card is so simple and elegant

Thanks for the video. I guess the same process can be applied to make those slipcases that have two parts that slide into each other like the Suntup Numbered edition of Neuromancer.

Lovely video for a nice relaxing wind down. Do wonder if there is a way to make cylindrical boxes by hand? Would like to replace the boxes for some of my camera lenses that sadly lost theirs. Cheers

If you think you'll be doing larger pieces like this where your magnetic corner clamps cannot be used, may I suggest getting an inexpensive set of machinist's blocks, aka 1-2-3 blocks? I have no idea what the metric equivalent is, probably 25-50-75, but it doesn't matter. You can get a set of two without holes that only run about $20 USD. They'd be more than accurate enough for what you're doing here. Nice box, by the way.

I think this style of box is the same style used by jewelry companies for necklaces and bracelets, so perhaps Jeweler's box?

Lovely work. I'm curious about book press specifics: How long do you leave your laminating box sides in the press? How much do you tighten the press? What is the spacer/pressing material? Masonite?

What about a guillotine box, since you take the head off the neck when you open it.

Hmmm... How about calling it simply a "Nested Base" box?
@RincensoАй бұрын
And perhaps a "Low" or maybe "Slim" for when the height is less than a quarter of the base (or something) and "Tall" or "High" when the height is larger than the width. Could add a "Cubic" for when it ends up within 1% of being one. :)
