I have just discovered your channel. It takes me back to the 1980's when I bought my first van which was a 1974 Lunar. i upgraded over the years and ended up with a 1988 Clubman 460/4. I did enjoy my caravanning, joined the Lunar owners Club and for several years was the Rally Secretary. At the end of the 80's I had to stop because my wife would not go out with the van anymore, unbeknown to me at that time she was suffering from depression. We did have other holidays including cruises, but nothing compares with touring caravan. So enjoy every minute you can spend in your van, it's not a holiday it is a way of life, sadly for me it was cut short, the biggest and possibly only regret that I have in my life.

Another super video. Very homely touches! I can only dream of a Lunar Clubman ATM as I have an 11 year old Compass Corona that I adore. As I travel on my own with my doggie I have used a lot of your caravan prep and check videos in the past to give me the confidence and practical knowledge to be more self reliant! Keep them coming, they're great ! X

Hi Dan, Thanks for the tour. A lovely caravan. We recently purchased a 2012 model Clubman SB, with which we are very happy. In our's the kitchen sink is round and has no integrated drainer, you get a plastic drainer board to clip onto the side. That leaves much more space for food prep and dishing up. What sold us on our caravan were the 2 fixed single beds, and the full width bathroom across the rear of the van. So far we've not used the shower, which is a large square unit on the nearside, but that leaves the loo on the offside, so out of the awning for emptying. I think my only criticism is the hight of the microwave. My wife is only 4'10'' tall and she finds it very difficult to place items into, and out of the microwave! Thanks for all your vlogs I really enjoy them and have learnt a lot through them. Jonathan.

Hi Dan, Angela and Chloe, Thanks for the tour and more importantly a very big thank you for your very informative past vlogs. Last week we bought our first caravan, and this weekend we have had our first short range recce away in it to get a feel of how to setup etc. It is with your information and vlogs that has helped make the whole weekend a fabulous success; with everything from toilet cassette useage to zebra pot, we have a Mr. D's thermal cooker, we have been able, successfully, to start our first of many adventures. Myself, the long haired General and our four brat pack have really fallen into the love trap of caravanning. We just can't wait to get onto our next adventure. Thank you for sharing your experiences and also thank you for you very useful information. Steve and the gang.

I like this version of the Lunar and I am looking to buy one the same. 2010 model. It looks ideal for what we are looking for and I really like the layout inside. Went to view one last week and the dealer hadn't updated the website and it was sold, when we got to view it. Nice informative video.

Hallo family Trudgians. I found your channel only yesterday and straight away subscribed. Thank you very much for taking us on your travels with your lovely family When me and my wife retired 2 years ago we intended to buy a caravan and go on our travels then my lovely wife was diagnosed with an incurable illness so that has put that on ice for the time being.....but if all goes well maybe next year it will happen.

Nice one Dan. Thanks for the tour of your "Home from Home." We're hoping to purchase our first caravan within the next year or so. I've been doing a lot of research lately, with you and Mr Ditton giving out great advice as always. Our first purchase will probably be around a 2010/2011 model. The good lady always retires early, where as I am a night owl, up to all hours. It will only be the two us, so I'm thinking an island bed so I can shut her away.........In the nicest possible way of course 😁. I'm sure I'll change my mind a good few times when it comes nearer to purchasing. Thanks for the upload........Andy 👍

Hi Dan, Thanks for the good review. I agree with your kitchen work surface area. We used to have a Lunar Freelander 2000 524 which is the same layout as yours but a lot older. This had a flap that folded over the sink which was handy when it came to getting the duvalays out of the bedding locker. Last year, we replaced our faithful Freelander with a new 2017 CLubman ES as it was the same layout as our old one. How different they could be. Our main bugbear is the kitchen fold down flap that gets in the way of getting the bedding out. So much so that all the cushions have to be removed before being able to lift the bed base and that's with the flap fully raised. We've now removed the flap and life's a lot easier now. Many thanks for a good KZbin channel. :) Mike F

Greetings from Luxembourg, We just bought a Hobby caravan and this is our first trip. We were going to rent one but thanks to covid prices have sky rocked so ended up buying one. And as Cherish from Bake off the Professionals say, LOVE IT LOVE LOVE IT. Anyways what we do need is an awning, so the outside tour was super helpful, but are undecided on whether to get a tent, or a cassette awning. Leaning towards the cassette style as you can quickly set it up for an evening. Anyways what is the length width of your trailer?

@ianf65125 жыл бұрын
Hey Dan, just re-visited this video as part of my research. Picked up on a comment you made about this van having ALDE wet heating. How have you found the switch over to blown air with your new van. I’m currently torn between our local dealer special (panther 640) and the unicorn cabrera, both the same layout as yours. I asked the question on the bailey owners facebook page as to whether it is worth paying the extra for the ALDE system and the general concession was that it is because it keeps the whole van a steady temperature, although a few said blown air systems have come on a long way since my old 2004 lunar and heat the van up quicker. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts having switched.

Hi, thank you for your comment. Yep, we are sticking with this one. I see no reason to change vans just yet. If we were after a different layout, i really don't know. I know we wouldn't have a fixed bed, so just really unsure to be honest. Thanks again Dan

Hi Dan Thank you for the tour, could you say a little about the flooring in your awning? It looked to me like you had a groundsheet, with tiles and then a carpet. Do you need tiles for the whole of the awning floor area? Thank you also for all the content. We recently acquired our first ever caravan and immediately swapped out the Truma water pump for a Whale based on your upgrade vlog. All the best, Tony
@TheTrudgians7 жыл бұрын
HI Tony, On this occasion we had 3 layers on the floor. As a complete experiment. We had our breathable groundsheet, then the tiles then an awning carpet for added luxury. It seemed to work well. the carpet kept the tiles in place (the dog pulls them up) and the floor stayed warm even on the colder / wetter days. Dan

Thanks Dan, very interesting as we've been thinking about our awning flooring needs recently.

Having removed the bunk bed have you found that this affected the balance of the caravan as that must have been a fair saving on weight. Did you check with lunar that it was safe to remove the bunk bed.
@TheTrudgians7 жыл бұрын
Hi Keith, no affect what so ever on towing stability, if anything it felt better - but this could be curly sub conscious etc. As for checking with Lunar, these bunks were an added extra, this van would have originally been a 3 berth with an option to make it 4 etc, The only difference would be slightly wider cushions. I will be covering this subject off in a future video, giving our reasons for doing it and the benefits etc Hope that helps Dan

Hello Dan, Thanks for the tour. We are looking at our first family caravan and these videos really help. Just wondering why you don't use the shower as much now? Is it a water pressure thing or something else? Thanks Dan, great video as always :)
@TheTrudgians7 жыл бұрын
Hi Aaron, We tend not to use the caravan shower for a few reasons, pressure being one of them. But also space, length of time in the shower and for the girls being able to dry their hair is a huge deal. When we are off-grid we do use the shower, but the girls do love to spend some time in the shower, where as Tom & I just nip in and out again. Hope that helps. Dan
@aaronbeadle7 жыл бұрын
The Trudgians thank you for the reply. That makes sense, didn't think about the practicalities of it. I guess the facilities on site are also better and more adequate too. Thanks Dan
@lizmcnee38867 жыл бұрын
Hi Dan and family, first congrats on your 10k but secondly about your shower. You said you haven't really used it, but you did go off grid a while ago did you use it then? If you were to buy again would a big shower be high on your list? Must admit it does look an amazing bathroom. Well done and thanks for all your brilliant videos. Liz
@TheTrudgians7 жыл бұрын
Hi Liz, Many thanks for your kind words. Yes, the shower. When we are off grid, that is the only time we use it. when on site, our shower is mostly used as a dumping area for bedding, the dogs bed, bags and cases etc. Its also where we keep our dirty clothing (in a canvas bag) - so when we are off grid all these bags and bits and bobs are stored under the caravan so we use the shower. Hope that helps. Dan
@lizmcnee38867 жыл бұрын
The Trudgians Hi Dan, to be honest that's how I would use it too !! It's a great space for all that kind of stuff. If you were to buy again, would it be as high on your list, or would you go for an all in one bathroom? Thinking out loud really, I am guessing you would lose a lot of storage space, so its swings & roundabouts ( not that I ever quite understand that analogy) in some ways I am answering my own question, so feel free to ignore me ha ha🙄

Hi Dan Another great video I am new to owning my own van, and have a question for you or your viewers. Water heater do you leave it on all the time or as we are doing at the moment putting it on 20mins before use and turning it off again after? I am on EHU but does leaving it on damage or wear it out faster? the heat from it while on could help not to use the fire as often may be cheers for any advice keep Vlogging
@Bunce19496 жыл бұрын
Andrew, we have a Lunar Lexon 420 with a similar water heater to Dan's and we always leave the water heater on all the time. Once its heated the tank full, the thermostat will turn the element off just like an immersion heater at home. We have done this for over 4 years now with no issues, and we always have hot water ready. If you keep turning it on and off, sooner or later you will forget and have a tank full of cold water! The heater is under a bed locker, so I don't think your idea of heating the van will work unfortunaly. Excellent video as always from Dan and family.

Hi Brian, thank you for your kind words. As for teenagers - well my advice is give them space. hence why we gave Tom a separate room in the awning, he could come and go as he pleased plus he wasn't under our feet. I also chose our sites carefully to ensure maximum wifi coverage, areas that he could sneak off to and giving him plenty of time out sessions... Hope that helps. Dan

@TheTrudgians6 жыл бұрын
Hi, a good question and one im asked alot. The answer is nothing short of hard work, constant sharing online, regular uploads, never miss an upload and cherish the first 10 subscribers. The hardest time on my channel was getting to 100 subscribers. It took over a year to get 100 subs... And it was utterly demoralising. Getting to 1,000 subscribers was just as hard as getting the 100, then 10,000 was equally as hard as the 1,000. And thats it. no magic recipe, not purchasing of subscribers and no cheating the system. Its just a hard graft. I hope that helps. Dan
