Thank you so much for this lovely tour of your sketchbooks. I sometimes feel guilty that I have multiple sketchbooks going at once, and take so long to fill any of them. Like you I have different sizes, brands, paper weights, etc. I feel vindicated seeing your selection! Thanks so much for your videos - I always learn from them and I so admire the simplicity and beauty of your painting style.

Thank you for watching, and I am glad you enjoy my videos 😊 And to make you feel even less guilty about your multiple sketchbooks, after I recorded this video I realised there were at least two more unfinished ones I had forgotten about 🫣😁 Hope you have fun playing in your sketchbooks!

So happy I have just discovered you. I started to paint this year, flowers of course, but now getting into landscapes and want to try spontaneous watercolor landscape painting. I use only sketchbooks… they motivate me to finish each painting. Otherwise, on a loose piece of paper I would get to the “ugly phase” and abandon the painting. Thank you for sharing your sketchbooks… love the idea of using small paintings in a single page as a way to try concepts or new color combinations.

Thank you for watching and for your lovely comment 😊 I do remember this feeling when I was finding it hard to paint in my pretty sketchbooks… I started buying really cheap ones with thin paper, and those ones somehow made me find the confidence to be more fearless in my ‘pretty’ ones.

Thank you for your reply. That makes sense because I have a cheap multimedia that is awful for watercolor, but it’s so used and I really can appreciate what is in there. I need to be brave with my pretty ones. I have a Perfect Sketchbook and a white Etchr that I’m making a promise here to use!

Thanks for showing us your sketch books. They are windows into your creativity and experiments with design and technique ideas. They represent moments of creative sparks that lead to more creativity. Most of all they allow you to grasp ideas that may have been gone, so quickly, unless you had captured them on paper. They really bare your soul down to the creative spark that allows your skills and talents to produce the beautiful results we call artwork that show the better parts that are alive in us and allow us to fulfill our desires to express our inner self.

It was a thrill today to not have to read. Keep making videos. Your paintings are beautiful!!! And I’ve learned so much.

I am so glad to hear that Nancy! Thank you for watching and for your kind words. Thank you also for your feedback about the voiceover videos vs the written commentary videos - I hope I will be able to start adding more voiceover videos eventually but I just do not have much space or time to do it (I do not have a studio, I paint in the living room and I almost never have the house to myself so there is always background noise and distractions/interruptions so it's hard to focus on what I am trying to say :)). Music over videos plus the written commentary allow me to release a video every week, and if I was aiming to do the voiceovers I would probably be able to do it once a month or so. Thank you again!

What a wonderful surprise to hear you speak! Given your first name, I suspected you might have Eastern European roots, possibly Russian. (Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova is a very well known Russian tennis pro.) I've been eyeing the Etchr Perfect Sketchbook. They are really nice, handmade, pricey but probably worth every penny. I love that jack-o'-lantern painting! Great use of complementary colors. 🎃I also really dig that minimal line-and-wash two-page spread. And those little orange abstracts were really cool as well; they remind me of Joan Miro's work. Based on what I see on your website, it looks like you generally paint on sizes around 1/4 sheet or smaller. I bet you could make a dazzling full sheet lighthouse painting! 😁Thanks for sharing your musings on sketchbooks and the sketchbooks themselves.

Thank you for watching and for your thoughtful comment, I really appreciate it! Glad you enjoyed this little journey through my sketchbooks 😊 Etchr sketchbooks are pricey indeed but the paper and the binding are so good. I do know that people create their own sketchbooks out of Arches etc - I might try that (when I find the free time to bind my own sketchbook book 😁 ). Haven’t painted on a full sheet yet, but that’s also in my plans!

Your sketchbooks show you have a wide range of skill and yet you tend to do videos on pretty much the same topics. Your abstracts at 9:28 and 13:50 were really good, and the skates, mushrooms, yachts and seascapes, and the one with the winding road through mountain side were amazing. I wonder why you don't do tutorials on those. Perhaps you feel happier doing the pine trees and landscapes, perhaps you don't worry about the number of subscribers, but I think if you expanded your subject matter you would attract more viewers. I hope you don't mind me saying that because I mean it all as a compliment and your paintings are always so beautiful and inspiring. 🙂 PS I have lots of journals and I love the REAL STONE ones which Emily Olson reviews among other journals.
@AnastasiaMily7 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching and for your feedback, I appreciate it! I do feel very happy painting landscapes, and they are what I paint not in sketchbooks but as complete pieces. I don't really paint anything else as standalone paintings (not in sketchbooks) as landscapes is what I am very passionate about, but I have actually been planning to eventually start adding videos on sketching people, etc. I already have a couple of videos on stone stacks and feathers, and on semi-abstract landscapes too. The thing is, I am short on time, so painting and sharing my landscapes in their current format is currently what makes it possible to release a video every week.

I’ve noticed artist favor certain Art Spectrum colors: earths/indigo/Paynes gray. I don’t own Aussie RG, but see AS and DS Aussie Red Gold have the same pigments. What AS colors do you use or find working well with your palette?
@AnastasiaMily7 ай бұрын
I don't have that many Art Spectrum colours on my palette but I do love their Indigo and Payne's Grey (although my current Payne's Grey is by Rockwell Canada, but I'll switch back to AS when I run out). I love Art Spectrum's Indigo and Payne's Grey as they move very fast on the wet paper and create beautiful effects. I used to have more of their colours, and they are all wonderful, but I ended up switching to mostly Daniel Smith for the size of their tubes and for their array of colours. Also , I found that AS white gouache outperforms W&N for me - it has a better coverage and a much brighter white.
@SlySkippy157 ай бұрын

@@AnastasiaMily I followed Liz Chaderton’s KZbin tutorial on making your own sketchbooks. The one I make is using concertina folds, with the paper glued to very stiff cardboard that I have covered and use a ribbon that is glued under the sheet of paper on one of the sheets of cardboard. Then I tie it up, voila! Quite fun. Bonus is that you can make the pages and number to your requirements. Shame I can’t share a photo here. p.s. hope you can understand this. 😂
