12:20 - if it is a terminal spike (that comes from the center of a plant, not from any side, as usual), then it means that this plant won't put new growth from the center. Usually, this plant starts to produce baby-plants on its stem.
@debracancelliere40812 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it’s terminal. It looks like it’s coming from the center but it’s really from under that top leaf. There’s hope!

Hey, love all orchids, the blooms are lovely. That one with the spike in the middle, thats a terminal spike and yup, unfortunately it means the orchid won't grow any more leaves so essentially its a dud. But sometimes with some good food and care you may get some keikis to grow on! Have a good weekend!

You've got a fabulous collection and display them in such a pleasing way! I love the riser stand at around 20:50. Can you share where you bought it?

Hello! Here’s some tips that I can recommend for the orchids you have. The phal with that dark spot is most likely from a water drop that was left on the leaf for too long. The tissue died back and a fungus took a hold of that dead tissue. Nothing to worry about at the moment. However, be very careful not to get water into the crown of the orchid because that can be a lot more harmful. Also, congratulations on getting into the world of bulbophyllums. They are one of my favorites. I’ve found they enjoy shallow bonsai dishes. They grow very fast along rambling rhizomes, so be prepared for them to use a lot of space in your grow area. The buckleberry I have has grown from a three inch container to overflowing a twelve inch container in under four years. Happy growing!

Treat those spots immediately! Treat it with full strength hydrogen peroxide. Let it dry, then treat with copper fungicide. Don't touch the spots and then touch other orchids. The fungus spreads easily.

For the white one with the spike high up on the apex, It is nothing to worry about. If it was above the topmost leaf, it would be terminal. What likely happened is that the spike got trapped under the bract it was growing from, and came out against the apex higher up than usual. BTW, orchids are super addictive. I started with just one or two, and I now have over 70. Don't load up all your space on phals, you will run out of room and not have room for all the catteleyas and oncidums that you are going to want to get.

Wow!!! What a large and diverse orchid collection you’ve amassed! FYI- I believe we have the same NOID mini Phal with the darker silvery leaves that you have 2 of. It is one of my favorite orchids. When I first got it it was just a flower less orchid rescue and it was touch and go. But then it bloomed and I loved the flower so much. I wasn’t sure I could save it so I went on an id quest in case I needed to get another. The gen consensus (although not positive, of course) is that it is Phal. Tying Shin Smart. Happily she’s now a flourishing mini Phal but I would still get another one for insurance since I love it so much. Thank you for pointing out the fragrance! I never noticed before but if I stick my face in it - I can detect a very slight scent. Sorry for the extremely long and rambling comment. I’m so excited that you’re into orchids!!

I love the orchid vibes! I just got a rhyncattleyanthe young min gold, the flowers fell off in a few days but I’ve been getting more cattleyas because they are so cute, also my phals are blooming and my dendrobium noblie. I also have an oncidium and cattleya skinneri as seedlings

Check out Olympic orchids! I recently had a great experience with them. I ordered 7 orchids, and they all arrived looking immaculate. They are tiny tho so be warned, you will receive babies. The prices were super cheap, shipping was affordable, my only complaint was they didn’t answer my phone calls. I live nearby and wanted to avoid shipping and just drive to them to pick up the orchids but they didn’t answer, and I received them in the mail

Did you know orchids need calcium? Oyster shells or egg shells were what a speaker at orchid meeting recommended . Just thought I'd share.
