(Airport Tour #12) Here is a tour of Charlotte Douglas International Airport, a hub for which I have new respect after my trips there on August 28 and September 3, 2013. As of 2012, Charlotte's US Airways operations amount to the third largest airline hub in the U.S. (trailing only Delta's Atlanta hub and AA's DFW hub -- see www.airliners.n.... US offers flights to three continents from CLT and operates in four out of the five concourses, all of which you will see in the video. (Because I was in CLT as a connecting passenger both times, you won't see the check-in and baggage claim areas.) Also of note, I found the passengers at Charlotte to be very friendly and polite. Thanks for the upload. Last time I have any memories of flying via Charlotte Airport was during the Piedmont Airlines and early USAir. Amazing, than it was forecasted American would operate a hub out of Charlotte acquiring Piedmont.

Thanks for doing this! Looking at it now with lots of nostalgia from when I first moved to Charlotte and started working at the airport. MY, how everything had changed! That old skyline looks so quaint now. One thing I don’t miss is the carpeted terminal lol.

I have passed through this airport 4 time when flying from Seattle to DC and and the way back on us airways in the time between 2010 and 2013. I could say that it is one of the best airports in USA.

i flew to charlotte 2 times for a layover when my mom and i went on us airways to myrtle beach with my all star cheer team for a cheerleading competition back in 2008 its a busy airport and a cool one too!!!!!! i would love to go back to charlotte because my cousin lives there!!!!!

Fun fact: Both of the functioning B727's you filmed during taxi are currently owned and operated by Jack Roush and the Roush Racing teams in NASCAR. I used to work for USAir in Charlotte and you could always tell when one of those birds left. Thanks for the video!

Transferring jobs from the small airport here in G-boro to this madness next week. I'm going to miss the occasional 1 hour(sometimes 2) of downtime and relaxed(aside from "rush hour") environment I could only imagine what those poor people in Atlanta go through lol

I have been to pretty much every part of the airport shown in this video. Like Gate C6 and gate A11, plus I have been in every Concourse.

Thanks for the look-I'll be there next week. So that's a good question-does the merger mean leaving the Star Alliance? What of the feeders-will they change livery? Is it easy to switch between flights here? I'm looking forward to my travel. Going BNA-CLT-OAJ. I appreciate the tour and the look at the other aircraft!

Yes, with the merger US Airways will join Oneworld, and CLT will be an AA hub.

KBurchfiel It will be interesting to see any change in livery. My flight to Jacksonville (OAJ) was during a push and it was solid US Airways on the ramp. I used to watch pushes like that at BNA when it was an AA hub

I'm going to guess that regardless of regional carrier (Piedmont, US Airways Express) it's going to be in the American Eagle livery. Will be interesting for sure. That means Eagle will be flying the Bombardier Dash 8. At BNA they used to fly the Swearingen Metroliner and Saab 340

The airport plans to build a new International Terminal in the next five years, replacing where all the Rental Cars are currently located at the airport.

I hope somehow US Airways gets to keep their livery (the recent one) 'cause is the most beautiful among american carriers (including the new AA livery) ,with the exception of the funny Frontier liveries with animals :-)
