Kurytyba is a capitol of Parana state, where up to 3 million people of polish descent live. There's an active polish community there.

​ When I was 17 years old, my dad took me to Krakow. A strange thing happened to me there! A big gray dog ran out of a street and rushed towards me! He had a big hard shell on his back like some kind of dirty turtle! I was completely frozen and could not even move in terror! And the big dog ran at me, right at my head! He ran up my stomach to my chest and then to my neck and opened his huge mouth! The smell from his mouth was horrible, like boiled turtle with goose eggs! He was already taking my baby head in his mouth full of big yellow teeth when my dad came and took the turtle by the shell and twisted it with all his might so that it fell down and the body cavity and organs were visible. Blood everywhere! The dog squealed and let it go. He ran away and didn't bother me anymore. Only the large carapace, which stank so terribly, and the blood of the turtle remained lying on the ground. Meanwhile, the dog ran away. The police found us, I was shocked, but my dad couldn't take care of me. Then we preferred not to go to Krakow.

The Twin Cities aren't as surprising as you might think. Curitiba is the center of the Polish community in Brazil, and the Honorary Consulate is located in La Serena. Poles also have stories related to Chile. Ignacy Domeyko is considered a national hero. But not only that. For example, in Argentina, Polish Settler's Day is a public holiday. Ernest Malinowski has/had such status in Peru for building a railway leading to the highest point in the world (until 2005). There are also some interesting stories from Haiti, e.g. the Polish king of Haiti :) This may be the reason for various, seemingly strange choices of partner cities.

Very interesting! Why they would put a consulate in La Serena - not Santiago (capital) or Valparaiso (seat of Parliament) is another question though. Maybe there was some Polish immigration in the 19th century.

In this case, it is related to Ignacy Domeyko, who was co-responsible for establishing the University of la Serena. One of the campuses is still called "Igancio Domeyko" And former president Lech Wałęsa is an honorary citizen of the city. but in fact, in the 19th century, many Poles emigrated to South America.

It was a beautiful Russian city. Owned by Poles, it looks like a garbage dump. Poverty on the streets makes my soul hurt. The worst village in Russia looks much better. You'll still be fine. Warsaw, Kraków, Rzeszów, Łódź will return to Russia.
