Well. Mintage figures. I am no insider being German. BUT my guess is: The 50 pence coin 2023 is a low minted coin because there simply was not enough time to mint the volume ordered. I guess that the remainder of that mintage order was carried over to coins with the year 2024. And that explains the error from the part of the Royal Mint. The whole mintage ORDER is 5,000,000 - but for 2023, there was only a portion of that minted, leaving the rest for 2024. And when it comes to the scarcity of the coins, the factor of the King's health will without a doubt play an important role.

Hi Christopher. Do you think the Royal Mint should publish circulation figures as well as mintage figures given the amount of coins held in storage. There seems to be no fuss over the 2022 shield but people going crazy for the salmon yet I’ve never seen a 2022 shield. In circulation.

500000 AND 5000000 sounds like someone doesnt know a factor of ten fold. ( though there may be a difference between minted and sent out
