I have a story about this song. During that Egil fight at the meyneth shrine, just before Egil reached half health, I used a chain attack. My party was Shulk, dunban, and riki, and with the art setup I had, there were 2 red arts on each character, with dunban having 3. During that chain attack, when his health at stopped going down, I realized, oh I think the fight should have ended, ok let’s finish this chain attack. The funny thing is that chain attack was the longest one I got in the entire game. So long, that once I ran out of red arts and talent arts, I had to use breaks and topples. So at the end of the chain attack, I had him toppled, and just happened to have my party gauge filled again, so I used another chain attack just to meme. This one wasn’t as many rounds, but still, I finished his health bar, while only partway through the longest chain attack I got in the game, then was able to use another, all while laughing my head off at how sad this was, and I will never be able to associate this music with anything else

Everyone always talks about how this song reminds them of Egil or Bana. But for me, the most memorable part where this song plays is at mechonis core. I'll put the spoilery things under the read more. Its just because of how hopeless things seem when it plays. Zanza has returned and Meyneth has stepped forward to fight him. But even though you had seen how powerful she is during the game, she is no match for Zanza. It really plays on your hopelessness. Things have gone pretty wrong right now and everything was looking like it was going to finally be agreed upon. But nope. Enjoy a plummet of bad thing after bad thing happening

Man, I really like Egil. He's not some generic "heehoo imma blow up da world" villain. Despite his evil intentions, he still allows the protagonists to speak before they fight. He explains what he's doing, why he's doing it. And he's even doing for decent reasons. He is a villain that shows respect to his enemies, and I love that. Edit: I just realized, he reminds me of maul in the clone wars. He's a badass with great skill, what he's doing isn't even entirely wrong. He respects opponents enough that he doesn't fly into battle immediately, and they've both been blinded by rage, yet at the moment of their defeat, realize that perhaps they were wrong, and there might be a better way to get what they want, one that involves less suffering

the biggest difference is that Egil kind(the machina) almost got killed by Zanza and his best friend Arglass got possed by Zanza and was force to kill his best friend so Egil wanted revenge on Zanza by destroying all life on Mechonis and Bionis.

SPOILER WARNING FOR FUTURE CONNECTED If you think Gael'gal was a bad villain, try going into the first fight being over-leveled from completing most of the side-quests. I was so busy trying to destroy his defense-unit that Melia and Kino defeated him while I completely ignored him. Then during the 2nd fight, I had the Ponspectors land the finishing blow. The Nopons essentially drove a main-villain to commit suicide while I couldn't help but smile watching the Ponspectors huddle together.

Amalthus, Zanza and Z are pure evil. Malos, Dickson and all of moebius are influenced. Jin, Egil and N are emotionally destroyed. And Rex, Shulk and Noah are some of the most well developed protagonists in video game history.

Amalthous is consumed by nillism and delusions of gradeaur, thinking he was the architect's chosen one to smite all life just because god became apathetic to humanity's want to destroy itself. He refuses to change else he fears he will lose his very self. Its a form of stagnation. Zanza is consumed by his god complex and fear of being forgotten. His resets are also a form of stagnation, because he can't let go of the fear people will forget he exists. Z is consumed by fear of dying and losing control of the fantasy they created to hide from the reality beyond aionos. Despite all the heinous shit, they share human fears, understandable ones at that, but go to inhumane lengths to run from those fears. Fear of changing as a person, fear of being forgotten, fear of dying.

The version that plays in Galahad Fortress is entirely instrumental, even in the original game. It lacks the vocals you hear here and also skips the first 20 seconds or so. And it doesn't loop. I assume that's why the remastered version of Tragic Decision doesn't play there. Because the instrumental version itself did not get remastered.

@@Logos729 Good question, and one I don't have the answer to, I'm afraid. I agree, it's a bit weird. A *very loose* guess for why they didn't remaster it, might be that this version is never used as a battle or area theme when music remasters are done pretty much exclusively for either of those. I think Unfinished Business is the only theme in the game used for either of these two purposes (battle, in this case, of course), that did not get remastered. Possibly related (though this could also well be pure coincidence), there is also a particular cutscene that oddly uses the original version of One Who Stands In Our Way, even if you choose to use the rearranged soundtrack. That cutscene never transitions into a battle, so it would fit somewhat into the trend if that's the reason.

I have this playlist combined with every other Xenoblade games playlist, and it was playing while I was in a massive car accident last month.
