Even the calls where you save the life of someone, the amount of pain and stress of the thought that you got there only just in the nick of time sends shivers in your soul. Without going into too much detail, I was on a call with the Rescue Squad I serve in, we were on a SAR Operation looking forward a 13 year old girl who went missing. I had reached out to family members and others who I hardly spoke to because I was scared of what would happen if we couldn’t find the kid. Luckily we found them, but regardless it is those moments where you realize how fragile life is, and how it can be gone in an instant, and no matter how much you try to forget them, or push them down, they always come over you. Love to my brothers and sisters in Emergency Services.

i feel you, especially in the water/alpine sector you always need to be prepered for the worst, since you at best have one, maybe two days to find someone, i work in the water rescue sector in austria, and especially if a child is missing, you almost know for sure that the parents of that child will get the devestating message that their child is dead

We had a kid go up in flames after a wipeout. Rolled down hill and got pinned by his dirt bike to a tree. We werent in an area where air evac was possible due to the canopy. So we had to hike it out with this poor bastard strapped in and screaming the whole way. Our initial call was for someone else and we had just loaded them off and said goodbye to the ambo when this call came through. We figured already being there we'd be able to at least do some supportive care while a better stocked team came in. Since it takes time to mobilize and get there and depending on the situation time can be the difference between life and death. At the time I was just a two missing kids had not come home at the time they were supposed to. We had a route, they had supplies for a few days jic (yay, someone listens to the lectures). But yeah, polyester is a horrible fabric. I do fire rescue on the side during the annual torch the province season but often its extraction with mild injuries, not full blown immolation. The smell of cooked person is not one anyone forgets. Kids still alive as far as I know. But if the signs say don't do something, don't fucking do it! There's a reason for those signs. And every rule has been written in blood at some point.

My friend was a Emt and he lost his battle to breast cancer a few months ago and he meant a lot to me ! He was basically my 2nd Dad he was always there and listening to this made me think of him. I have a picture of him holding me when I was a few months old. And it still breaks my heart knowing that I’ll never be able to thank him for all the stuff that he did and how many lives he had saved

Follow your dreams. I am an EMT, i have seen stuff that will turn your gut inside out, but I have wanted to do EMS my whole life, even though i see stuff. I am always comforted and happy in the fact that i got to make a difference in someone's life, Ease their suffering, Take their pain away, Give someone to talk too, Someone to just hold their hand smile and say You are going to be ok. It's gonna be rough but remember why you do this! I couldnt have asked for a better career

I am an EMT in a bigger city, 100k but live ten miles away in a city of about 13k. Our issue is four about a 50 mile radius we have one regional hospital! I mean the area I work in is 50 miles but over all their is cities 2-3 hours away and its rough to hear things like that come over the radio... Our life flight is pretty crazy around here with six locations but still seems to never be enough.

ItsQ47 my boyfriend is a firefighter 25 years an AEMT and reserve police officer. He want to teach a class about PTSD and the struggles our first responders are left to deal with. Is there anyway he could get permission to use this video as part of his class through the EMS system. He was already approved to teach the class. Many are told they must remain silent and do not talk about what they have experienced on the job, as many fear they could loose their job if they did. Thank you for this video, it was remarkably well done! Our first responders need to know that can talk and not feel they walk alone as many do. There is no support for them , they are left to deal on their own. Again, thank you !!

Thank you so much for making this video. I am part of Search and Rescue, and I have been on calls where you already expect the outcome to be terrible. It is always hard to see the pain and sadness that the parents, grandparents, children or friends of the subject when you tell them that their son/daughter etc... was found dead.

Well guess what pussy it is so bad and so dangerous which it isn't it's not even the top 20 dangerous jobs at least law enforcement comes in at 15 but there's one thing you're free to walk off or quit your job or if you're employed by a city or county department transfer to another department like Public works which by the way is far more dangerous than any other local government city or county job just like any other local public employees unlike the military who can't Veterans Day is coming up it's a federal holiday I'm sure there's a parade or event near you why don't you go to it and see some real heroes that wore a real uniform and served our country!!!!!😀😀🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Great video.. I've watched people take there last breath to having patients hold my hand and beg me to not let them die.. I don't care who you are or how long you have been in this field there are calls that stick with you and it will never go away... the faces the screams the cries the images and somehow we have to keep going. All we have is each other.. we see and do things no human should ever have to.. and that's what makes us special and that's what drives us to keep going

Great video. Thank you for your appreciation. I’m volunteer search and rescue. I can attest that many volunteer and even paid first responders give a lot of time and a lot of their souls to help others. It’s what we do. We’ve given a lot of time and even our own money to pay for our own trainings and equipment that we never get reimbursed for. To all Law enforcement, fire, EMS, SAR, and dispatch personnel out there. Keep fighting the good fight.

I have been in the fire service for 50 years and I have seen a lot.I served on 3 fire departments and was a former fire captain and today I am serving in the capacity as an Incident Safety Officer.I knew 4 firefighters who were killed in 911 at the World Trade Center in New York.I also have had the unpleasent task of removing the bodies of fire victims from burned buildings and vehicle wrecks. The fire department that I presently belong to ,also runs the EMS service and has rolled on suicides. One of the most unpleasent suicides we resonded to was for a teenage girl that hanged herself.

Don't forget to talk to someone, guys. Your job is hard, I know; harder than I could ever even imagine. But always remember why you started, and please, *please* don't hold all that pain down forever. You put your life, limb, and overall wellbeing on the line to try and make the world a slightly better place. The least we can do in return is give you company when you need it the most.

It's been 6½ years since I was forced out of the fire service in bath county Kentucky over a suicide attempt. All because I was trying to get the image's out of my mind but when asked for help all I was told was "you just need a good fire call" I went 4 days no sleep leading up to that day I tried to fix it. After all I got was kicked off the department and a restraining order saying I wasn't aloud to talk to firefighter in that county. I still fight to this day the image's and of course thay are triggered by hearing siren's or seeing/driving by accident scenes

Here's what you need to do kid don't waste your time right now with civilian firefighters join the military serve your country try to become a military firefighter and even if you don't become a firefighter in the military when you get out you'll get the GI bill which will pay for everything you'll get all kinds of benefits as a vet and Military experience will look great on your resume or application plus you get Veteran's preference which will put you at the head of the group in the application process plus you get all kinds of veterans discounts at the big box stores like Lowe's hardware the home Depot plus the American people love almost to the point of worship the military that's why we have armed forces Day Veterans Day and of course the big one Memorial Day no offense how many federal holidays do civilian First Responders and police get none!!!!

I often feel alone. I find I cannot talk about the worst memories, the ghosts, and the nightmares. I need a good cry but cannot allow myself to do so. My wife has offered....but I cannot put her through that (she is not public safety).

sniperboss365 dope game play well this is the red sign! I am a 33 year ff/ medic. & now it has hit me ! It’s ok to ask for help & get help ! We are not machines we do this for others no one can grasp the things your brain takes In. I have incidents that go back to my start. There are places to help & this thing called EMDR -That helps , look on the net & find someone near you. Drinking or drugs don’t make it disappear ! It’s not a job most can do .... so keep yourself mentally in the game! God bless 🚑🚒

I realized that the screaming I hear are from PTSD. Over 20 plus years. I wish I could forget. People think I am strange. Go figure... I'm trying to start a PTSD place on my ranch, but I got arrested. Talk about playing uniform against uniform. All because of lies and forgery by someone that has never worked the streets. The judge threatened me with contemp of court. I suffer from PTSD and TBI. Got injured in a fire 🔥.
