As a German i have to say that this makes me very emotional. Seeing a man who became nearly 93 years old and who fought for freedom and peace in Europe and Germany. The people who fought in WW2 know what it does mean to live in times of war. They gave their lifes so that we can live in peaceful times. We should keep his saying in our minds. May he rest in peace

I was not lucky enough to have ever met Dick Winters or any of his men. I was fortunate to have a Grandfather who fought in WWII. I never knew any of his exploits until I signed up for the Marines. He pulled me aside and was both proud and scared for me. He then began to prepare me for what he thought might be a possibility. I never saw battle, but was glad there were men like my Grandfather and all the men who have died for us. On behalf of a grateful Nation, thanks to all of you!

And the one thing i will always remember of Major Winters is the last part he said in the end of the last episode. "My grandson asked me the other day, Grandpa where you a hero in the war??? Grandpa answered No, but i served in a company of heros." Sir i salute you rest in peace youve earned it

My Grandfather served in the Canadian army and once said on the way to Normandy that the Americans are going to have it eazy with all the equipment there bringing with them. Meeting with the 101st in Holland he told a few American troops ..Got a smoke?......later told me It didn't matter who or what you had you fought with what ever you had and the 101st proved it

Ive read the book, been to bastogne, and seen the series....and can honestly say, that his leadership is incredibly inspiring to me...something I will always take with me wherever I go. Cannot imagine being put under that much pressure and coming out alive every time being at the front, leading from the front. Its the greatest story of heroism ive ever heard of. I didnt even know he died until today, I am very saddened, I always wanted to meet him in person, and now I will never have tht chance

In the Summer of 1998, I was out of work and I had picked up the book Band of Brothers for some inspiration. After I finished it, I called Mr. Winters to express my gratitude. 2 questions I asked him: Q1: What was your toughest battle? A:"the dike in Holland" Q2: What advice can you give me? A: "You'll find sometimes that the most important thing you can be in life is emotionally prepared to do what you need to do to succeed." God bless you Mr. Winters!

The more I hear about/learn about this man the more I love and respect him. He is about the same age as my own father, who fought in the Pacific Theater against the Japanese. It truly was a generation of heroes coming out of the Great Depression only to go and fight against the evil axis. We owe so much to this generation and all the other soldiers since, who have put themselves in harm's way to give us a better life here in America. We are not perfect but there is none better.

its sad to think that only a few men from the greatest generation are still alive. If your grandfather or great grandfather served in WW2 and you hate his war stories, stop and listen. If I could be half the man Dick Winters was then I will be damn proud of myself. One of the greatest stories was when he came home and owed money to the IRIS they told him he didn't have to pay because he had served with great distinction in World War II. Dick Winters looked the IRIS man in his eye and said "I will pay the money I owe. I am damn proud to be an American".

If you've only seen the movie and never read the book by Stephen Ambrose.....READ THE BOOK. The mini-series is great, but the book is great. GREAT. The book leaves you thinking: How did these men fight when they KNEW they were going to die, and probably in a horrible way. And Major Winters, who stood at the top of a road, emploring his men to get up and fight while a MG-42 nest was firing on him.... What a stud. How he survived that is a miracle. - He's my hero.
