Thanks for the video tribute. I had the fortune to first hear Huell Howser on local television in Nashville in the 1970s. We loved his quirky reports and its great to see that he moved on to bigger venues in California. His voice and his beautiful soul never changed. RIP

I was stunned by his passing. He always expressed a childlike sense of wonder, that the rest of us had mostly lost, about things that we should have paid attention to. California's Gold was a fascinating show, I watched it regularly when i was living in San Diego and I am going to miss him. Go in peace Huel, you gave us so much.

As a younger viewer, I have been watching Huell for years on KCET with my family. We've loved his show and his showcasing of our state. Huell always seemed like such a genuine guy, and really loved what he did; learning about this grand state, and the people and places in it, and showcasing it for all of us to see. Huell Howser: a man who always has been, and always will be, a part of California's Gold.

I was really sad when I heard that Heull Howser had passed away. I've been a resident of California my entire life and started watching "California's Gold" in the late 80s.. The great thing about Heull was his sense of curiosity. .I can't think of another TV personality who had such a natural sense of ease with people.

Huell introduced me to the idea that every place is fascinating when you find the story behind it; it doesn’t have to be a recognized place or a popular place or even a place that shows up on a map. I’ve lived in California for 55 years and half the places Huell took me to were places I'd never known or heard of before. The places are where you find them but you first have to look for the stories.

I'm heartbroken. I feel like I lost a family member. Huell somehow loved California more than myself or any other Californian. I certainly hope he's playing with his own avocado dog in the big sky. RIP Huell... You will be sorely missed

I met Huell in 2012. All I could think to say to him was to pull one of his famous quotes and say "Meeting Huell Howser. It doesn't get any better than that." He very graciously accepted the complement.

ditto: I feel like I've lost an old friend.Just recently I watched the episode from Newberry (Burt Lancaster's picture) and seeing the highlights gave me happy chuckles. I will miss Mr. Howser and am glad he shared his approach to life with so many of us. It was great to see the vast diversity of our beautiful state presented in such a way. Thanks for the memories Huell!!!!

A friend and I met him at a breakfast spot in Palm Springs several years ago, and he instantly treated us like old friends. He was Grand Marshall in the annual Grubstakes Parade in my hometown of Yucca Valley one year. And he had a chance encounter with my Mom Frieda, which ended up on his TV show. Happy trails Huell. You were loved, and you will be missed. Thanks for all the memories you shared about California, preserved on video to enrich future generations.

AWESOME TRIBUTE! And Im IN IT at 18 seconds! Huell briefly interviewed me at The APPLE PAN Hamburger stand in L.A. I stayed in touch with Huell over all those years. He was Great for California & will never be forgotten. I can also share with everyone, that he was NOT a "slow witted country boy". That really was all an act, but that's who he was way back in the beginning. Later he became a sophisticated producer of EXCEPTIONAL CONTENT way before KZbin. Huell was early KZbin. RIP Buddy.

I love seeing Huell's CALIFORNIA GOLD on KCET TV channel 28. I surely enjoy seeing all the peculiar places and people he met and interviewed. I wish KCET TV would not play shows, even as much as I enjoy them individually, until ALL OF THE SHOWS HAVE BEEN SEEN! I know there are certain great shows that people like to see time and time again. But because of Huell's unique style, he took the most Mun Dane person, topic, or location; into one of the most interesting 26 minutes on TV!!! #KCETTV28 please show us all of Huell's Fantastic Shows!!!

Huell happened to sit next to me at the bar at the Coronado yacht club on the morning of the 4th of July - I think it was about 1986 or 7. He was just getting started with "visiting" and told me he was a videographer of only positive things. A few weeks later I caught his show and told my wife - THAT'S HIM !! - he was the only reason I kept cable tv. I feel like I've lost an old friend.
