A Tribute to the Best Game Scout Ever - Herbie

After over three years of helping the safariLIVE naturalists actually find good content to share with you all, Herbie will be moving on to a new adventure. We are all devastated to be saying goodbye to such an important member of the Djuma guiding team. Herbie joined the Djuma staff as a tracker and was soon assigned to the safariLIVE team as a game scout and all around good-guy guardian for the bushwalk team. His almost mystic ability to track and find animals combined with his knowledge, experience and fascination with all things wild quickly made him invaluable to us. Whatever your next adventure is Herbie, we sincerely wish you all the best with all of our love. Inkomu Herbie, you will be hugely missed!

My wife and I got a ride from Malamala camp to Skukuza this week and we met Herbie. Herbie was on Safari Live before we started watching Wild Earth in 2020. Herbie shared some great stories and hearing about some of our favorite safari guides learning from Herbie was great fun. Herbie knows our favorite tracker from Ngala, Adam. We are now watching the early episodes. Herbie is a great guy and we are so lucky to meet him.

I only happened upon this channel a couple of days ago and only saw Herbie for a brief period on his last day. I was following the live chat and it was obvious he has quite the fan base. So sorry to see Herbie leaving. I can't help but think Safari Live over stretched their capabilities when the undertook Dive Live. Since then the Exit door has been opening way too often.Brent,Tayla,Scott,Noel,Ralph, Even the occasional visits from Byron have stopped. There's an old saying which I think is internationally understood. "" If it's NOT broke, don't try and fix it"" Let's just hope James,Jamie,Tristan and Steve don't abandon what may soon become a sinking ship.💚🐨🇦🇺

Dive Live was funded separately from safariLIVE, and Herbie was an employee of Djuma Private Game Reserve, not safariLIVE. He's been working at Djuma for 19 years, the last 3 of them including the tracking and bush walks he's done for SL. He's decided to leave Djuma and move on to new adventures. The "tightening of belts", to use the words that safariLIVE used a few months ago, is because National Geographic didn't renew their contract at the end of June. That income over the last few years was the reason SL was able to expand over the previous 3 years or so. As for guides leaving, maybe you need to accept that sometimes people want to try new things, such as Brent setting up Painted Dog TV, and Tayla going into a mix of private guiding and training that's enabling her to keep her restless feet on the move and to spend time in her favourite country, Zambia. Or they may have personal reasons for leaving, such as Scott's abrupt departure without Nicki, and Ralph missing his wife and young sons so much that he decided to return to running private safaris from his home base down in the eastern Cape.
