The Dash-8’s will always be a fan favorite amongst Railfans. So it’s sad that most are being replaced. I’m happy that some are getting preserved or sent to Class 2/3 railroads. Great video dude. ❤️👍🏻😎

Glad us West Aussies got a mention in this video. We still have a few surviving Pilbara cab locomotives with at least two Dash 8s surviving the scrappers torch and some Alcos. Sadly the preservation society in the Pilbara hasn't operated in ages as the population isn't sufficient to keep up the condition of the locomotives.

i was a switchman for the chicago and northwestern... the CNW bought the SD50/60s brand new for powder river coal service... they BOMBED out... CNW then tested some C-40-8s... they liked the dash 8s performance and bought a slew of them
I like to call where I find trains “Dash 8 Country”. Not only a reference to Mogul Country but also the fact Pan Am had a good chunk of Dash 8s and a lot are still running. They’re like my GEVO in a way and that’s why I like them. Some may hate them but they’re one of, if not, my favorite diesel locomotives.

A couple of years ago, I was on Amazon looking for a railroad-themed square pillowcase to use in my man cave. The one that caught my attention featured CN C40-8 2125 (probably one of the ex-C&NW/UP units that CN acquired). I ended up buying two of them, and they are still on the couch in my man cave to this day. That's one way to pay tribute to the Dash 8 units, in my opinion.

You can see the video on my channel, but when I was alerted that Santa Fe 552 was placed on the BNSF OCS headed to Topeka last month, I bolted trackside to wait for it. There was no way I was letting that slip under my nose. There's also another pair of ex-Santa Fe units being used in transfer duties out of Argentine Yard, so I'm gonna get those as much as I can.

Those are the greatest nostalgic workhorses for those railroads who bought them but now... they are still in the process of fading away and their future is unknown but atleast they still have more years until they are finally gone.. just what happened?! These were part lf making up my childhood.. but now they are disappearing..
@transportsaucanada28443 күн бұрын
CN has storage of many Dash-8 and Dash-9 on the network at different locations only the future will tell us if it will come back into service one day. It all depends on the economy.

The class 1 railroads could care less if they have to get rid of their remaining dash 8s but for class 2s and 3s they can’t afford to usually lose any engines so these small railroads will keep the dash 8 rolling, hopefully for another decade or 2.

AC44s eventually then AC60s don’t forget Oldest GEVOs too SD70MACs will be in the middle of older Gevos and AC44s. The YN2 will be gone one day. I think the Santa Fe scheme or H1 could be complete vanished but not for another decade or 2 maybe.
