There weren't that many cars necessarily. It was a promotional film and extra cars and activity in the streets was organized to make the city look like a happening place.

It's before the earthquake which became the fire also. The video is San Francisco down Market Street. The clock tower in the distance still exists.

The great 1906 earthquake started fires all over San Francisco, due to ruptured gas lines. The fire dept. was unable to fight the fires effectively due to broken water pipes. : (

That guy drving the car with the license tag "4867" is in this video a lot of times. I wonder if it was a taxi. He comes in at :16, 1:29, 2:31, 3:37, 5:19, and 9:19.

Funny, I hadn't noticed it until you mentioned it but it's the same 3 or 4 cars that keep passing and making U-turns ahead of the camera, lol.
