Travel the remote town of Alturas,CA located in the North East corner of California.

I used to visit Alturas growing up in the 70's and early 80's, that's where my dad was from and my grandpa was a minister there way back in the day. We had some beautiful wild property in the Warner mountains there and would camp and fish for trout in the area. Really great family memories there, thanks for sharing this!

I use to live there for five years, I love how quite it is. I left in September of 2021 and I do miss it. I visit a few times but just wish I had a good reason to visit more often. I’m only 4 hours away but nothing like a nice calm afternoon in alturas…

@@stephaniemhoover4741 I can remember everyone's names I interacted with there,good or bad,and Hoover doesn't ring a bell.Since your Dad was class of '72 he would have been in jr. high when I was there in high school as a freshman and I moved before my sophomore year so we would have never been in the same school at the same time.Thanks!

I almost retired to Alturas. I'm glad I didnt. I retired to Crescent City where there is more happening, more services & more shopping, more restaurants. You can see what a nowhere town Alturas is where the video had to turn around & drive thru it again. !

Used to hunt outside of Alturas. There was a Basque restaurant we loved there. Nice town with very friendly people!

I use to live there. I was crowned little miss fandango in 1968. We use to live out by cal pines, on regress swallow, by the old Macky ranch. Use to catch the school bus t he old school by cal pines. Lot of memories.

Alturas hospital depends on Modoc county land owners to help pay for its monthly bills. Most land owners (Modoc county) don’t live In Modoc but they are forced to pay (hundreds per lot owned) through land taxes 2x a year. This is unfair.

Just wondering, I did a Google search of this city and this article popped up saying that there is a noose hanging at the city hall with a book of the history of the lynching. Is there any truth to that? Wanting to know because I was looking into purchasing land there. Thanks

The hanging noose was not in Alturas. It was in Placerville, CA -- east of Sacramento and in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. It's previous name was Hangtown. A regional courthouse was located there and serious riff raff was dealt with severe penalties (one ominous road just outside of town was called "Widow Maker Lane"). The hanging nose was on Main St. It has since been taken down because the town has been gentrified by new money from Sacramento -- who don't want to live in the city.

I've never heard of a noose hanging anywhere. But the museum does have information about some people that were basically kidnapped from jail and hung on a bridge. I wish I could have shown it in one of my videos, but they said no cameras were allowed in the museum.

I'm a travel nurse and constantly see that Alturas needs a ton of nurses. There are two reasons a healthcare facility has that many openings. 1. No nurses in the area. 2. The facility is a poorly managed dumpster fire. Anyone know which?

It's just a really small town. Nurses, doctors and physical therapists are brought in temporary.

Main Street and the highways are fairly flat. But it's only about a mile.

Not to sound all “spammy”… but would you be open to letting someone use your video for a film project? I was born in Alturas, and haven’t been back since I was 7. I’m creating a rustic, grassroots film series using landscapes of areas in the country that are close to me. All my family in Alturas has moved away, and it’s one of the ONLY areas I have no friends and family to drive around and capture the landscape for me. This project is not for profit. And I would credit you in the series! I know this is strange request, I’m just hoping some people in Alturas will be kind enough to help an awkward dude out. 😆
