A tropical home with brutalist details gets the Almario treatment

When an architect and an interior designer work together, sometimes it is a bit like tango. There needs to be communication, trust and graceful balance. The Owen House is the first structure inspired by brutalism that the Interior Designer and Director of Atelier Almario, Ivy Almario, has worked on - and the results are stunning. Black walls match the mullions of the jalousie windows effectively hiding its mechanisms. A catwalk wraps around the double volume space to give access to the windows on the second floor, releasing trapped hot air.

Love it! Best for tropical climates like the Philippines. I can imagine myself living in that house. It is so similar to our family home that was gutted for a business establishment. 😢 missing our family home. Great job, Almario's design atelier!

Striking colors. Goes well with the outdoor/indoor plants. Would drive me nuts having to walk that entire wrap around walk way every time I wanted something from the bedrooms or lower living space.

Wrap around catwalk is mainly for opening of windows on second floor. Other rooms are accessible without taking it. :)

It seems you dont understand the meaning of brutalism and you just understood it as something like post war design of houses, unfinished and looking like piece of rock become a house but sadly this is what modern brutalist architecture looks like, not everything with plants and modern looking is already considered "industrial" and "tropical". This house might look different outside in its facade, in the get go but very brutalist inside.

windows are not typhoon proof, even rain with strong wind water will penetrate.
