Great content, well done. I’m a 35 inch scale 5 string player but I’m glad this came up on my home page good to know about.

I'm still gonna say the development of this bass is backwards. The guy doesn't play a five string and suddenly has a sign signature five string.

Patrick how you do think this would do for Royal Blood style stuff? Are the pickups hot enough?

Got mine a few months ago and really dig it. It's gorgeous in person and a lot of bang for the buck. String spacing is a little tight but not bad once you get used to it. I only have a couple of complaints... Strap buttons are located on the heel of the neck and with a rounded body, the bass wants to tip forward. Being hollow body, relocating that button to the upper cutaway isn't an option without a bit of work to support it. That's really a first world problem though lol. The second issue us a bit tougher... I got this one to have a 5 that can get an old school thumpy tone so right after I placed my order, I went to order flat wound strings for it. Easier said than done. It's a short scale bass but the tail piece adds length so it needs medium scale strings (34" from ball to silk). So... how many options are there for a 5 string set of 34" flat wounds? Just one. Dunlop was the only company making them a couple months ago. Luckily they sound great. I let Eastwood know and I'm hoping they work with a manufacturer like LaBella to produce a second string option (they used to make 34" flats in 5). Those things aside, it's a great bass.

@crocholiday I bought one too with the the idea of putting flats on it :) Thank you for the Dunlop medium scale suggestion. Which gauge did you go for? 40/120 or 45/125? How're you finding the tension on the B string with it? I've considered trying lightweight tuner to see if it helps resolve the neck dive issue. Could be worth a try? Seems like Gotoh Res-O-lite GB350's would fit

@@ryan-s5c I got the 45/125 set. They’re a bit brighter than I was hoping. I need to see if the Vaseline trick works to deaden them a little. The B tension is okay for me. Neck dive is gonna be a thing being a hollow body. I hadn’t thought of swapping the tuners. Light weight tuners is a great idea. I’d love to know if that helps.

@@ryan-s5c update… Vaseline trick worked like a charm. Getting a less bright tone out of them now. Playing it again this morning… it has a pretty unique tone that I really dig. Not quite as vintage as I was hoping for but still cool with lots of usable tones. It’s hard to articulate what its tone sounds like to me. Maybe P meets Darkstar with a lil bit of upright flavor from the hollow body?

@@crocholiday Thanks for coming back to me :) Did you find the 45/125 fit through the bridge tail piece without any issue? Did it sit in the nut slot properly without any adjustment needed? Wasn't sure what the biggest gauge it would hold was so any help is much appreciated. Glad to hear the Vaseline worked. Darkstar meets P-bass sounds like a unique combo! Will try the lightweight tuners in the next month or so hopefully so I can let you know. Till then going to try a find a good wide strap :)

@@ryan-s5c Oh! I totally forgot about the string width... Yea, I had to drill it to get 125 to fit. I didn't love having to do it but the silk winds wouldn't go through. I think 120 is what it's drilled to if I remember correctly.

Very beautiful bass guitar and it sounds good. Looks comfy to play. Strange that despite it being a hollow body, it doesn’t much sound like one. That could be a good or a bad thing depending on one’s needs.

Eastwood's center blocks are phenomenal, and pretty heavy compared to, say, some of the Gretschs I've played

@@lordundhimself1310 it’s got a little bit of hollow body resonance to it but not tons. Strung mine with flats and the hollow body tones came out a little more.

It’s beautiful, it sounds very good. However, the only problem is the price. If it was made by Gibson or fender, it would have a better resale value and make a better investment.

$999 list is pretty reasonable. You can likely get it for less during one of their sales.

I know people like the vintage look of it (and sometimes function), but you are literally losing an obscene amount of value by buying any bass semi hollow bass that has not transitioned from the wooden floating bridge design. They are inferior in tuning, intonation and just tone than any of the other better thought out solutions by some brands. Even the floating wooden bridges on super expensive high end instruments are just garbage.
@riogrande163
@riogrande163 2 ай бұрын
It's not rocket science to adjust, and for some instruments the bridge is a key part of the tone, Hofner basses are a good example of this.
