I grew up in a divorced household and this was very much a beloved film for me. Still is. It's cheesy, but I feel like it does a good job really representing how children in divorced families feel sometimes. Scott learned a valuable lesson about cherishing his time with his son, the mom learned that she needs to let her child be a child and Scott and the mom learned how to be parents that are divorced. The only one that didn't really get some kind of arc was Neal (until the very end).

It was when Scott finally accepts his new role as Santa that Tim Allen showed he could become someone besides his Tim Taylor character. When he catches the snowglobe from Charlie his expression changes to one of warmth. At the police station he does not talk back as Scott would likely do. And when Scott gently comforts Charlie at the end, he has totally become Santa.

I truly don’t think anyone expected you to think this was bad, everyone loves The Santa Clause! These movies are over the top and cheesy because they’re for kids, just like all the other classic Christmas movies. The North Pole was truly magical to see, and executed soooooo much better than Elf. Because that one is Will Ferrell, I always assumed it was done so cheaply/badly to be funny and hokey.

@@ranniwolves They're forgetting that back in the '90's at least, Disney tried to make family movies that could appeal or at least be relatable to both children and adults, so you'd get jokes aimed at adults, too. And, you have to overlook the dated special effects, as believe it or not, movies were being made for the better part of a century before computer graphics were cranking out ultra-realistic-looking special effects. What's important is the fun storyline and great heart the movie really has. The Santa Clause, at least the first one, is a classic for millions of people around the world for good reason.

@pangea379 Жыл бұрын
Loved you guys laughing still at the end because of how cheesy it was. Tim Allen's humor is still great and I'm glad he was apart of this 1st movie and continued til the 3rd and returned for the Disney+ series too (a few of the original cast from each movie return too)! The trilogy movies are a must watch during Christmas time no matter how silly. It is a movie for cynical non-believers of Santa and parents/guardians who don't know how to handle the holidays with children who start to stop believing in Santa and anybody with very low Christmas spirit. A lot of children who grew up watching this are now adults and might now understand the adult humor as well as how NOT to ruin a child's belief. Each movie hits differently based on your own life experience and how you connect to some of the characters (like the divorce issues present in this or a whole life style or attitude change). The 90s movies like this one and Jurassic Park both started incorporating real-life situations like divorce into fantasy movies while still giving us the opportunity to believe in the whole movie magic. This continues into the 2nd and 3rd movie too so I hope you guys give them a chance. No spoilers, but you guys will get answers to a lot of things you pointed out or asked about. Also, if Tim Allen isn't a believable Santa, then maybe you prefer Kurt Russell? There is the Netflix movies 'The Christmas Chronicles' ???

I absolutely LOVE you guys and your reactions and I absolutely get why you think this movie is so cheesy -- it is, pure 90s cheese -- but it's also really clever (so many of the jokes Tim Allen delivers early on are effing hilarious) and the emotional core hits me SO hard, even still (and maybe even more so?) today as an adult. I grew up with this movie and my husband and I consider this to be "our" Christmas movie because of all the nostalgia, but also we just think there's a lot to love here. I really do think the emotional core is one that's beautiful and really, really resonated with me and a lot of us who were kids in the 90s. I think this movie is much better than people give it credit for because of the fantastic father/son story. I'd encourage you to watch this one again with your kiddos.

I know, right? My parents divorced when I was 7 years old, and that was also the year I figured out for myself that there was no Santa Claus. I had wanted one of those Fisher Price play desks with the magnetic, colorful letters that could be stored inside the desk. Well, I got it for Christmas, but "Santa" left the box with the instructions for putting it together in the basement for me to find, so...I was too smart for my britches back then, as my grandma would say. A lot happened to our family at that pivotal time in my life. Dad kept stealing us from Mom and denying he had us, then he'd return us late on Monday mornings for her to rush us to the babysitter's before she had to go to work. Mom got sick from the stress of dealing with her Ex, so she moved us out of state, back to California to stay with her mother until she could get established in a new state. Except we got into a bad accident on the way, hauling the little U-haul trailer hooked up to the back of our station wagon. A VW Bug cut my mother off, and the trailer jackknifed, then pulled the bumper free from our car, then somersaulted down a hill. So, we arrived in a new state with the clothes on our backs, and not much else after our few possessions we'd had when we moved were ruined in the accident. Then, Mom's bleeding ulcers and stuff were not enough, she had a burst appendix shortly after we'd arrived in California, which the doctors did not diagnose until a second extended hospital stay, and she eventually demanded an exploratory surgery to figure out what was wrong with her, which took the doctors 8 hours to save her, as she had gangrene all over her organs from their not treating her when her appendix first burst. Our grandma wouldn't even take us to see our mom at the hospital, but she did tell us that if she died, my siblings and I would be split up and sent to different relatives. After Mom recovered and we moved out on our own, Dad wouldn't pay his child support, so life was VERY tough for Mom to provide for us all on her own. Many Christmases consisted of a single present from her, even if we had that much, all while we were required to go spend the day at our well-to-do aunt & uncle's house for Christmas dinner with the relatives, where their entire living room was filled waist-high with presents for their two boys, our cousins. Suffice it to say, it was ALWAYS hard to get into the Christmas spirit with what my family lived through, and my brother, sister and I went through as kids. We like to watch lighthearted, cheesy-or-not Christmas movies like The Santa Clause just for the fantasy, of living vicariously through a make-believe movie to enjoy the Christmases we never had as kids. Sometimes its the yearly re-watching of cheesy Christmas movies that is the only thing that can get us into the mood for Christmas.

This is my favorite Christmas movie. I think I definitely believed in Santa Claus a lot longer than "normal" because of this movie. I loved it so much and still do. Nostalgia 100 as well as I love cheesy movies! I watch all 3 every Christmas.

Honestly surprised Babes in Toyland (the version with Pat Morita and Keanu Reeves) isn't one of Oak's Christmas movies. 🤣 Personally, I think every Christmas movie should have a little cheese. Even Die Hard is a bit cheesy at times. My mom loves these Santa Clause movies (and Tim Allen). She even had us watching the new Disney+ Santa Clause series on Christmas. And yes, it stars Tim Allen looking to retire as Santa and searching for a replacement to be Santa.

I love this movie but I also grew up watching it. It's the 8th movie/tv show out of 24 I watch every year for Christmas. Loved seeing your reactions and the nonstop laughing at the end. Fun fact, I saw Tim Allen at The Laugh Factory in California. He talked about this movie and how he hates/dislikes kids. So it was really funny hearing some of the stories from this movie. Also Happy Holidays or normal week if you don't celebrate

This is one of my favorite Christmas movies. I also love Elf, White Christmas, and Home Alone 1 and 2.

My favorite Christmas movies, all three of them, with the third being my fave, even though most think it’s the worst of the three movies. I was so psyched to watch the new six episodes, with the majority of original major characters coming back! It was cute, and I honestly wish it would have been longer. I hear there’s a possibility of another set of episodes in the future! Merry Christmas to everyone!

My mom started playing the new episodes while we were waiting for the ball to drop and everyone was kind of doing their own thing to entertain ourselves and stay awake until midnight. 5 of 6 of us were so invested by the time we had to pause it for the ball drop. 🤣

this is one of my favorite Christmas movies. I feel like the whole thing about adults not believing in Santa or magic anymore is very fitting for the review here haha like, I think there was a lot of nitpicking here that I haven't seen in other movies. but honestly, everybody has different tastes so I'm glad that you guys were at least able to laugh and enjoy yourselves. ❤

I like the part where Tim Allen says it feels like America's Most Wanted

your review had me in stitches, that was awesome 😂 This movie was on repeat in my home because of my little brother, and seeing it from an adult point of view now hits different 😅

As a 90's kid I always have had a lot of fun watching this movie. Classic Tim Allen indeed, not exactly what we would consider super kid friendly comedy style these days, lol.

I didn't get a chance to scroll thru the comments so my bad if someone mentioned it. But yes the little girl in the beggining was an elf. They pop up here and there, like they are checking up on Santa etc. You see one at the bench at the soccer game, outside the house when the cops are after santa etc.

Just rewatched all three movies myself and the new show, and I gotta say I can't be more hyped for you guys to watch this movie(and hopefully the entire series). Merry Christmas!

This is my favorite Santa Movie 😂. I love it even more as an adult than when i did as a kid. The second one is great too. You would enjoy The Lemon Drop Kid with Bob Hope. It’s a great Christmas movie as well.

I loved this movie as a kid. I mostly enjoy it for the lore it adds to Santa Claus. It answered questions I didn't even know I had, like does Santa die and if so, what happens? If it isn't one person for eternity, how do they choose a new person? I also love Christmas movies that bring the belief in Christmas and Santa Claus back to people who have lost that child within. Great reaction!

It isn’t so bad it’s good, it’s just good! This movie shaped my view of Santa Claus as a kid and explained a lot of the questions I had. Tim Allen was, and will always be my Santa Claus. 🤍

I don’t get what’s so funny. It’s charming and creative explaining Santa. I grew up with this movie loving watching it with my family.

You're both kinda Neal at several points~ I think it's kinda interesting how your opinions about certain things are one of the exact points of the movie: There's magic in just ~believing~ & not everything needs 100% perfect explanation to be enjoyed. But even Neal came around! And I know you two might not rank the movie very high (the movie's age does show in place, tho, it's kinda gives it a charm), but you did seem to get some genuine moments of enjoyment~~~

The Santa clause movies (and now, the new tv series) are my family’s go to movies! The next movies and the tv series explain things more 😂 And #3 is my favourite, Martin short and Tim Allen are hilarious together.

i used to watch this with my family every year while decorating the Christmas tree. it's such a cute movie. the other tradition was watching a Christmas Story multiple times (while chatting) at my grand parents. to me these are two of the best Christmas movies but probably mostly from nostalgia
