I'm pretty sure it's been stated that if 2017X looked at the real Sonic, he'd have a mental breakdown. This implies that Sonic actually exists in this world or is a moment of seeing and interacting with other dimensions. He failed to acquire the data of 2017X because this X is still very much made of void matter, making the process of scanning biological data harder since, you know, no biology to accurately scan as X could just change his appearance and the abilities he has with any appearance he takes. For example, if he chose to be Tails, he'd gave Tails' abilities, not Sonic's.

I’m certain that 2017X real name isn’t known to them, thus they can only call him by the name he gives himself, “Sonic”. Even if everyone knows he isn’t the real deal, that’s really the only name they got. Hence why when Metal copied 2017X Bio-Data, it’s spelled like “Sonic” and not just Sonic. So yeah he copied 2017X Bio-Data and it messed around with his programming. Either way, the world is not surviving no matter who wins this fight.

I think X 2017 is like X 2011 since X 2011 (Also with Lord X since they are the same entity) loves Sonic so he decided to make a world and a body based on him, he knows who his friends are, his whole world but with X 2017 he actually creates that he is Sonic so he is not improving or exploiting his abilities like those two would do, he only imitates Sonic even though deep down he knows that he is not.
