So glad the Mohsen quote is included. The next line after the one shown is even more revealing: he says that the moment after tgey have destroyed Israel, Pal will be absorbed into Jordan. So they didn't even want it as a state! This is not about love of life for their people. It is about lust for death of Jews. And since their leader emphasized on an interview right after Oct. 7 that they will keep doing such attacks "again and again" those insisting on "peace! no war" are barking up the wrong tree when they refuse to accept that this hate is there and unrelenting no matter what Israel does.

@@adhuna1009 The 2000 Camp David Summit. Israeli PM Ehud Barak offered Palestinian Liberation Organization chairman Yasser Arafat a state with the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and even East Jerusalem, with the caveat that Israeli forces would remain at the Western Wall (Judaism's holiest site) to protect Jewish worshippers, and some Jewish neighborhoods within East Jerusalem would be annexed by Israel. Israel was ready and willing, but Yasser Arafat and the Palestinians were not. In the autobiography _My Life,_ Bill Clinton, the US president who was overseeing the negotiations, claims that Yasser Arafat called him a "great man," and he responded with "I am not a great man, I am a failure, and you made me one." Dennis Ross, a key negotiator at the summit, claims in the book _The Missing Peace_ that Arafat was unwilling to sign any deal that didn't confer to the maximum Palestinian demands, including a right of return for Palestinians that would turn it into a one-state solution when the summit was supposed to be for a two-state solution.
@adhuna1009
@adhuna1009 6 ай бұрын
first of all, absolutely nothing was in writing, which is weird for such an important matter, so you have conflicting accounts to this day. the following from wiki (which you seem to have missed when putting the blame entirely on Arafat): Robert Malley, part of the Clinton administration and present at the summit, wrote to dispel three "myths" regarding the summit's failure. First myth, Malley says, was "Camp David was an ideal test of Mr. Arafat's intentions". Malley recalls that Arafat didn't think that Israeli and Palestinian diplomats had sufficiently narrowed issues in preparation for the summit and that the Summit happened at a "low point" in the relations between Arafat and Barak. The second myth was "Israel's offer met most if not all of the Palestinians' legitimate aspirations". According to Malley, Arafat was told that Israel would not only retain sovereignty over some Arab neighborhoods of Jerusalem, but Haram al Sharif too, and Arafat was also asked to accept an unfavorable 9-to-1 ratio in land swaps. The third myth was that "The Palestinians made no concession of their own". Malley pointed out that the Palestinians starting position was at the 1967 borders, but they were ready to give up Jewish neighborhoods in East Jerusalem, and parts of the West Bank with Israeli settlements. Further, the Palestinians were willing to implement the right of return in a way that guaranteed Israel's demographic interests. He argues that Arafat was far more compromising in his negotiations with Israel than Anwar el-Sadat or King Hussein of Jordan had been when they negotiated with Israel. Shlomo Ben-Ami, then Israel's Minister of Foreign Relations who participated in the talks, stated that the Palestinians wanted the immediate withdrawal of the Israelis from the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem, and only subsequently the Palestinian authority would dismantle the Palestinian organizations. The Israeli response was "we can't accept the demand for a return to the borders of June 1967 as a pre-condition for the negotiation." In 2006, Shlomo Ben-Ami stated on Democracy Now! that "Camp David was not the missed opportunity for the Palestinians, and *if I were a Palestinian I would have rejected Camp David, as well*. This is something I put in the book. But Taba is the problem. The Clinton parameters are the problem" referring to his 2001 book Scars of War, Wounds of Peace: The Israeli-Arab Tragedy. Norman Finkelstein published an article in the winter 2007 issue of Journal of Palestine Studies, excerpting from his longer essay called Subordinating Palestinian Rights to Israeli "Needs". The abstract for the article states: "In particular, it examines the assumptions informing Ross’s account of what happened during the negotiations and why, and the distortions that spring from these assumptions. Judged from the perspective of Palestinians' and Israelis' respective rights under international law, all the concessions at Camp David came from the Palestinian side, none from the Israeli side."@@jagnestormskull3178

Great video. It, however, does leave out the false Arab narrative that the Holy Land had a reasonably large population of Arabs prior to the first Zionist settlement (1882). In fact, many Western visitors to that region prior to 1882 describe a land that was desolate and deserted with practically no vegetation and very few inhabitants outside of the towns that were small and shabby. Most of the privately-held land was in the hands of a few extremely wealthy Arab owners that lived outside of that territory in cities like Cairo, Beirut and Damascus. They offered to the Jews the worst of those lands to buy at exorbitant prices. But the Jews ended up buying 90,000 acres and turned them into productive farmlands. This was something totally outside of the Arab mindset. (To date the Israelis have planted 250,000,000 trees.) Once the Arabs from neighboring countries saw the prosperity the Jews were created they began mass migrating into that region.

Egypt does not attack Gaza because the Gazans do not attack the Egyptians and also because the Gazans have a lot of family in Egypt so who will they attack their family? And I recommend that you investigate why the Egyptians said to the Gazans what I said because when you investigate you will find out that the Hamas movement is associated with the Muslim Brotherhood organization that the government in Egypt hates and in addition Hamas for years does not remember how many members of the Sinai Daesh attacked the Egyptians and when that happened the Egyptians slaughtered them all (according to foreign sources Egypt got a little help In Israel in this section I don't know how) so do me a favor and do an in-depth study of the Japanese you speak

My husband's family came to the Tel-Aviv area in 1912 from Aden Yemen on camels. They arrived to sand dunes and empty land and slowly started to build their lives in Israel, like many other Jews from Arabic countries. Oren often illustrates these histories very clearly and with an academic knowledge of how modern day Israel evolved. This is important background that often falls on deaf ears. People feel emboldened to openly hate Israelis and Jews in general. They would prefer an image of a meek impoverished little grandmother begging for a scrap of bread as the Jew they will accept. Maybe. What they hate are strong highly creative intelligent people who will fight to the death to protect their land and people. The haters would admire those traits and qualities in any other nation...just not Israel.

@@insideoutsideupsidedown2218 No need for that kind of pedantry. A constitutional republic is properly a form of democracy, squares and rectangles, and the barest glance at US foreign policy, particularly recently, shows an apparent belief that representative government is the default desire of people everywhere. All that's needed is to clear out the oppressive people at the top and give the general public an opportunity to assert themselves. That didn't work so well in the Balkans, or the Caribbean, or South America, and was a complete disaster in Iraq and Afghanistan. There are just a lot of people in the world who, if you give them the vote, will vote for different forms of authoritarianism, and that's not a cultural thing that can be changed overnight. Israel pulling out of Gaza was not an altruistic move and Oren is being a little disingenuous about it here. The Israelis said openly at the time that withdrawing from Gaza was about maintaining a Jewish majority state, and was actually designed to halt the "peace process," which was always geared toward creating a Palestinian state. The Israelis recognized that the Palestinian population was going to keep growing exponentially, and so they sacrificed territory for security. It wasn't about giving Palestinians anything. I'm not faulting Israel for that, but the "disengagement" from Gaza is often presented as the Israelis being magnanimous, when it was quite the opposite.

Israel could have said "there you go, Gaza is now Palestine," but that wouldn't have made it official. And it is true that the palestinians have been offered much more territory in the past, but declined.

Por eso el adoctrinamiento intensivo desde la más temprana niñez contra Israel. Which might explain why they are having such hard time "giving up" land that never had any Arab settlements. @myrrhbear 7 ай бұрын
Wow, Oren. So well said. You covered so many incredibly important points here, and each one shared with accuracy and calm and care. As far as my many years of research have shown me, yes, Israel legally has full right to the land. In fact it should be pointed out that it was flat out *illegal* for the U.N. to recommend dividing the land in 1947. Why? Because at the end of WW1 when the Ottoman Empire was finally dissolved in 1922 the 51 member countries of the League of Nations *unanimously* voted to recognise the Jewish people's right to the land of Israel - and this next point you didn't mention, but I think is quite important, that the League of Nations clarified that this formal, international recognition of the Jewish people's right to the land of Israel was "not by sufferance but by historical *right* ", meaning not in compensation for the brutality done to the Jewish people for millennia, but because in truth, as evidenced by history, the land in fact belongs rightly to the Jewish people. And the next point you also didn't mention, but I think is key for correcting people's misunderstandings about Israel. So many people mistakenly, (even if well intended), believe that the U.N. *gave* half of Israel to the Arabs, and therefore for Jews to live on that land is equal to theft of the land. The fact however is that the U.N. only *proposed* the division of the land. The Jews, after decades of being violently terrorised said they'd be willing to accept this proposition and share their one and only tiny homeland if only it could mean a cessation of Arab attacks on them. (As an aside this is not peace. I won't murder you any more now that I coerced you to give me what I demanded through violence, without regard to whether I had any truthful right to it... Does that mean peace? No way.) But the following knowledge is KEY to honest and correct understanding of the rights to the land - once the League of Nations was disbanded and the United Nations took its place, the member states of the U.N. agreed to maintain all agreements and " *not alter in any manner the rights whatsoever of any states or any peoples or the terms of existing international instruments to which Members of the United Nations may respectively be parties* ” (article 80, U.N. Charter). What this means, as I said above, is that it was outright *illegal* for the U.N. to make this proposition in the first place. In any case, as you mentioned in this video, the Arabs vehemently rejected the offer, since accepting half of the land is in their eyes a crime punishable by death since it also means affirming the Jewish people's right to the other half. I desperately hope that after this war, the incredibly delayed response to a century of letting Arabs, in extreme murderous hatred butcher Jewish people, that Israel will finally STOP being apologetic or equivocating about its borders. Israel should reclaim all of the Gaza region, and all of Judea and Samaria i.e all of the land of Israel, and should make plain that these are the borders of the State of Israel and this is NOT negotiable, and no terror will be tolerated further. Every country in the world feels this is their inalienable basic right - to have clearly defined borders that are not negotiable on the basis of violent coercion from neighbours. Why does Israel struggle so hard to share this same basic right. Israel is a tiny country - similar in size to little Vancouver Island. It has been inhabited by the Jewish people for three and a half thousand years. It is the history of the Jewish people, the home, the life, and the future of her children. It is the place of our long and storied relationship with ourselves as a complex and diverse people, and of our relationship with the other peoples of the world, and the place of our long and profoundly meaningful relationship with the Creator, our G-d. To deny or obfuscate this relationship between the people of Israel and this land, is to deny not just our history and our long promised future, but it is to deny something of our very existence right to the core. It kind of reminds me of "the Nothing" that was obliterating reality in the movie The NeverEnding Story. We have no cause to be embarrassed to have clear and non-negotiable boundaries - to declare plainly - this is our land, our home. Those who want to be citizens with us and respect the laws of our land can live among us in our land, but this land is not up for grabs, and least of all to those who proclaim that their goal is to slaughter us all.

The prophets of Israel were very accurate with their descriptions of future events as the information came from our Creator. Note that none of them described two states, much less an Arab state within Israel. This is why no matter what outside forces such as the UN, the US, etc. insisted in dividing the land has never worked. Every time the Arabs tried to destroy the Jewish state, the Jewish state actually acquired more land. Our Creator established this during biblical times, and no man, or outside forces can change that outcome. When they try, the opposite takes place.

Believing in a 2 state solution sadly does not mean believing in the ability to implement such a solution at present. Hate perpetuates the cycle of violence . Other places like N Ireland have come to peaceful solutions by largely disavowing the hatred that perpetuated the violence. In the foreseeable future I do not see the Arab street as willing to do this. When Islam becomes a true religion of peace as is the aspiration of some Muslims and not a guarantor of power for violent fundamentalists then perhaps the whole region could prosper. People often do not see others clearly because they project their own thoughts and values onto others that do not and will not ever function as they do. This can be a very dangerous mistake. By the same token resisting the urge to mirror the ethnocentric hatred of the neighboring countries is a huge task for Israel. As the present torch carrier for the enlightenment this is a task that we should all hope ( pray ) that they are up to.

The problem is that Keeping the idea of a 2 state solution alive perpetuates the existence of UNWRA and the hope of the Palestinians. The only way this ends is when that hope is extinguished.
@hrnfw4818

@@farfiman A change in the role of UNWRA must be a key component in the creation of conditions that might allow for a triumph of moderation over fundamentalism. As long as the UN has been subverted into supporting materially and philosophically an organization that advocates clearly for genocide against Israel there can be no progress. There are many barriers and little consensus.

As a Canadian, I wholeheartedly agree with all your points raised. More people should look beyond the simple rhetoric and see the realities of the big picture. A two state may be possible, maybe 30 -50 years down the road but Hamas and their ideology must be erased, and if possible, it will take an upheaval towards normalization of Palestinian society.

One point is totally correct: The Palestinians need to demonstrate that they can run a democracy across Gaza and the West Bank. If they can do that and elect a half-decent government then they might achieve statehood. One more point could have been made: In the absence of democracy, there is no one with a mandate from the Palestinian people to negotiate a two-state solution, or any other solution, on their behalf.

I love your videos! I live in Italy (Milan) and have no relation with Israel at all, just few colleagues at work, but I'm not even jew. I am so fascinated by your state, and recently, because of the war, I started reading books and I started rejecting social media western propaganda against Israel. The deeper I go, the more I think there's not a real solution :( This makes so scary and thoughtful. I wake up in the morning thinking about this war and I go to sleep at night doing the same. I admire you israelis so much for finding a way to live even in constant threats from Hamas and other terror organizations. I am so scared of the "isolation" the world is putting you on because of ignorance and hate propaganda. Hamas for sure won social media war... I really hope the western world will change their mind on Israel and all this anti-semitic thing ends (or will sleep again, because I don't really think people can heal their antisemitism) but most of all I hope this war ends soon and you could live in peace one day :(

It's impossible to understand without understanding that this is a religious war. Muslims see compromise as a sign of weakness because it's supposed to be the Jews' Holy Land. I believe it was Dr Mordechai Keidar who said that they see it as someone offering to share his wife for the sake of peace. They have no respect for that. And if we say that the land doesn't matter to us to the extent that we have no problem giving it away, they say, "So you have no right to be here." The rest of the arguments about the different value systems are absolutely true, but it is important to understand that it won't help to ignore the underlying cause. It's like a story Tzvi Yechezkeli told in an interview about his journey in religion, one about a conversation he had with Arafat. When the latter said he'd kill the former for being a Jew, Yechezkeli responded that he just identifies as an Israeli. Arafat laughed and said, "You fool, so I will kill you for something you're not."

I have a video request please - could you please do a video on the legal and social status of non-jewish citizens in Israeli society? I'd really appreciate an in-depth look at any legal distinctions that are made, no matter how small (for instance, I've heard there's a difference in being able to assert historical property rights). I'd also appreciate a candid look at what social discrimination non-jewish citizens face, for instance in being subjected to additional security measures like searches, having difficulty finding housing/jobs in certain communities, etc. For context, I know that non-jews in Israel have full constitutional rights, but I've also heard that arab muslims face discrimination, and I've heard about examples of different legal standards being applied to jewish vs. non-jewish conduct in specific circumstances (like the aforementioned assertion of historical property rights -- like a jewish family could produce a deed from the ottoman empire asserting ownership of a plot of land, but non-jews cannot; or, isn't it the case that jews can study Torah subsidized by the State, but other religions have no similar privilege?). But I don't know the details and I'd like to be sure of what I'm saying. Also, if you can recommend any books on the same. Thanks, peace and love
