I have never known a couple your ages that are so mature and appreciate the vintage quality of items. I am that way now and I would say I was in my 50's before I stopped buying cheaply made new junk. There are a few items that are okay but most won't last a year! I enjoy your videos so much. I think you are the channel that is from Licking Co. OHIO? I sub to so many homesteads I get confused! I am a new sub of your channel. I have watched all your videos and cannot wait for more. Do you have the upstairs filmed? I think I only saw your yard(s) and the first floor. Thanks. Nancy from Heath, OH

I love all things old! I’m so glad you enjoy them! We are in Eastern Kentucky. I am the same way. It’s so hard to keep track of each of the channels. Thank you so much for subscribing! In my earlier videos I share the upstairs of the house.

We just had a new clutch put in our tractor and some type of cable. It was pretty expensive. People don’t realize how much money it cost to farm. You’ve got me wanting to make bread and egg salad. 😊

I have frozen raw egg yokes and whites separately and used them for custard and meringue later on and it’s worked fine. I will have two ziplocks on the go and keep track of the number in each with a sharpie. Eton Mess or trifle are good and affordable desserts to use them up.

Thanks for sharing your day. I tried some of the Meal in a jar recipes in the Ball canning book and we really liked Beef Stroganoff and Beef stew. I wanted some emergency meals put ahead but I seem to be using them up for lazy meals! I haven't used any of my canned tomatoes yet because I also froze a bunch at the end of the year and want to use them up first. Summer lasted a long time here in South Central Illinois and it has been warm so far.

I would like to can some meals in a jar this year. I’ve actually never done any before. I am so glad I canned so many tomato products because we are going through so many lately.

Thank you for sharing… I would like to know if you have made a video re. the kitchen sink. I think you said that it belonged to Ben’s grandmother. I’d be interested in seeing the process of how it was installed onto the table. All the best with your future projects.
@LewisAcresHomestead
@LewisAcresHomestead Жыл бұрын
Yes, it was Ben’s great grandparents sink. We didn’t. Ben built the sink base last winter when I was sick and he didn’t film the process. He built the outer part of the base that you can see, doubled braced it underneath since it’s so heavy, and the sink is secured to it. I hope that makes sense.

Perfectly cooked eggs! I always overcook mine a little bit, discoloring the yolks. How many minutes do you boil yours? We ended up never using our water glassed eggs because our chickens never stopped laying either. I ended up scrambling them and feeding them back to the chickens. I did try freezing some. I heard they were great for baked goods - this turned out not to be true for me. I ruined a cake with them that I was baking for a Christmas gathering. They did turn out to work fine to use as poached or fried eggs though.

I boil mine for 12 minutes and they come out perfect every time. I will have to get creative and figure out how to use up all our water glassed eggs because I refuse to let them go to waste, lol!

Why do you wash your eggs? If you don't wash the bloom off them you can store them on the counter and they'll last longer. Just curious.
@LewisAcresHomestead
@LewisAcresHomestead Жыл бұрын
We only wash them because we sell them. Usually they have some chicken poop or dirt on them and if they’re dirty people won’t buy them.

Great video i have just found you. I have a glass loaf pan and i have a trouble getting the bread out as it stuck. I decided to use it for meat loaf instead. Being English we call it a tea kettle rather than pot. We dont really can as a nation but there are some who have homesteads do. Im looking at canning meals and meat. It will help having many disabilities. I would love a digital electric canner but i cant get it imported here. Im too afraid to use a pressure canner. Fear due too a gas explosion in a campervan. The instant pot here does can but it only takes pints 4 at a time. There is my son and me. Would a pint of chicken or mince be enough for 2? Sam uk

Hi! 👋🏼 Thank you so much for watching! Typically when canning meat you can fit 1 pound of meat in pint jars. It is just my husband and I and anytime I can meat I can it in pint jars. 1 pound is usually plenty for us.
