Ukraine's expected counter-offensive against the invading Russian army will require troops to battle through multiple layers of defence, including the 'dragon's teeth' positions.
It is unclear so far when or where the country's counter-offensive will take place, but it seems it is getting closer.
Tens of thousands of men from the country have been training abroad, and military aid has been sent from all over the world to Ukraine, along with bridging equipment and mine clearance kit.

@@tomhenry897 no it hasnt. You don’t announce an offensive. Ukraine has lost 7 to probably 11 people for every Russian they’ve killed. Air defense network is mostly disabled and they have very little Air Force left. Russians have air superiority. Good luck launching an offensive without that. Russians have only just begun rolling out their war machine. Mobilized forces have only done 6-9 months of training. Not to mention, Iran, China, and many nations throughout Africa will be willing to provide manpower if that ever becomes necessary. Even little Egypt tried to secretly manufacturer 30,000 missiles for Russia. Ukraine is doomed. Poland will be next.

What you forget to mention is the Russian Air defense and absence of Air Defense and attack on Ukrainian side. Other thing to be mentioned is those defensive obstacles are not just slowing Ukr forces, but they also making them easy targets! What number of soldiers and equipment will finally be able to face fresher Russian soldiers and their heavy and rested equipment with better logistics (close by for food, ammunition, gas, ...) ... all these make it impossible for Ukrainian forces that have already lost 400K soldiers and now count on elderly and children to break through... Another armchair general here :): Is it possible that this counteroffensive will not be so dramatic? at least not yet. An offensive operation is risky and while the Ukrainians 'talk it up' the Russians are worrying, moving resources and troops to more defensive formations, having to stay on high alert and combat readiness (tiring) and all their internal politics are playing out and potentially boiling over. All the while, Ukraine can perfect their logistics and continue combined arms training. Were I an actual general, I might be tempted to just wait for the Russians to mess up in some way and then exploit that, rather than piling into a prepared defense? It might be that there are a series of feints and small scale actions, but not all that much will happen for months yet.

By themselves yes, but it combination with mines and wire they are an obstacle which force the attacker to slow down and concentrate. The area in front will be registered by artillery to exploit the slowdown. The line of dragons teeth provide an excellent visual reference of range and main defensive line is set at the optimal distance to exploit the advantages of ATGMs and other mid range weapons. They are part of a layered defence that can only be dismissed as inconsequential by people observing and opining from a very safe distance.

@@Ealsante Disparaging the fighting capabilities of Russian forces was a popular pastime for Germans far from the eastern front. Moscow, Stalingrad, Kursk and Berlin proved the "innate superiority" thesis to be false. Substitute the Axis armies of 1941 with the NATO. The "innate superiority" theory dismissed the rice farmers of Vietnam and the goat herders of Afghanistan. Artillery is, by its nature, an area weapon not designed for pinpoint accuracy. Any significant Ukrainian offensive will involve large numbers of vehicles and men; it will be a large target to which the natural dispersion of artillery is ideally suited. Weight of fire is contributed by the artillery and mortars; individual targets are engaged by ATGMs and direct fire from tanks and anti-tank guns. In the present conflict, drones have largely replaced artillery in the counter battery role so the range advantage, though it still exists, has been diminished in significance.

The dragons teeth can be resolved with armored D11 bulldozers. These are relatively cheap. Bulldozers can resolve the mines simply by pushing them aside with the dirt snow plow fashion. It’s likely to be a dramatic process. The trenches, too are a no effort challenge. The dozers would work at night, and could well be remotely driven. The dragons teeth would be pushed aside. The D11 can push 40 cubic meters of material ahead of the blade. The D11’s are no slug speed wise able, if I read it correctly, to transit at 80 kph in transit between work sites.

@@Toronto-Brad That is what the whole area is, a kill zone. But it has to be breached as quickly as possible. One would expect that there would be a considerable effort to eliminate as much artillery with the Himars ahead of an attempt to drive through. There are patterns a D11 can perform to create protection for the pathway as the Dozer drives through. Just by driving in a zig zag pattern for instance the dragons teeth tipped on their side with the point towards the enemy will provide excellent cover for the following troops. I give you right on your first two points. On your third point, UAF staff now has recent real-life experience of combined arm operations. Moreover, they are closely coached by the masters in the matter, the American (and British) armed forces. The attacker must indeed have superiority (the ratio is not fixed but depends on circumstances), but they must only have LOCAL superiority, which can easily be achieved, as the attacker chooses the battlefield, while the defender must spread its resources along the entire front. If it was only a matter of overall superiority in numbers and weaponry, then the Germans would have been crushed by the French army in June 1940. But they won, as they concentrated their attack on a weakness of the French defense... and pierced through. So, can the UAF achieve a large local superiority on, say, a 10-20 km broad front? The use of MicLics today makes breaching mine fields and most static defenses a thing of the past. The only drawback is it narrows the avenues of approach. Ukraine has quite a few of them. And as an Engineer officer in the Iraq invasion I know well trained bridging units can install bridges extremely fast. With today's ability to pinpoint artillery with close medium and deep strike capabilities a lot of these WW2 defenses won't stop an advancing army very long if at all, but as I know all plans go to hell after the first contact. The Russians centralized decision making again will be its weak point. I see a lot of armchair generals in this blog... .

Let me direct you to WW2, North Africa, where a British force of 2 divisions bested an Italian force. From Wikipedia: "The British Commonwealth force, totalling 36,000 men,[26] attacked the forward elements of the 10-division-strong Italian army on 9 December.[27] Following their initial success, the forces of Operation Compass[28] pursued the retreating Italian forces.[29] In January, the small port at Bardia was taken,[30] soon followed by the seizure of the fortified port of Tobruk.[31] Some 40,000 Italians were captured in and around the two ports, with the remainder of the Tenth Army retreating along the coast road back to El Agheila. Richard O'Connor sent the 7th Armoured Division across the desert with a small reconnaissance group. It reached Beda Fomm some ninety minutes before the Italians, cutting off their retreat. Although they tried desperately to overcome the British force at the Battle of Beda Fomm, the Italians were unable to break through, and the remnants of the retreating army surrendered. Over 10 weeks Allied forces had destroyed the Italian Tenth Army and reached El Agheila, taking 130,000 prisoners of war in the process" The Ukraninian soldiers are fighting for their homeland, and very determined about retaking the territories still under Russian control, whilst most of the Russian soldiers know they are being treated as cannon fodder and don't want to be there. Russian troops have been captured with rusty AK47s they'd been issued with, and Russian equipment generally isn't as god as the weaons supplied to Ukraine by the west. Ukrainian soldiers are being trained before being sent into combat - Russian soldiers are not. The officers of the Ukrainian army, particularly the ones that have received Western training, show more initiative and competence than their Russian counterparts, and the Ukrainian GHQ clearly knows what it's doing far better than its Russian equivalent. Russia needs to comply with the numerous treaties it has signed over the years, instead of wiping its collective arse with them. If Russian troops return to Russian territory, the war stops immediately. If Russia persists in not merely invading another countries sovereign territory but behaving like a bunch of unkulturny uncivilised barbarians, it will inevitably lose, because there is no way that Europeans will let such a vile bunch of Russian Nazi Orcs rule over them. Ultimately, if Russia continues with this war, it will destroy itself, and the rest of the world will cheer its demise.

Go check out how a Dragon teeth works, it is extremely sturdy and hard to clear thats why its is very difficult to breach with heavy vehicles, for the counter-offensive to work it have to be fast and taking artillery strikes takes too long. Not to mention the Russian outgun the amount of artillery firepower the Ukrainians have and US and NATO has openly mention the there amount of Shells and ammunition monthly hardly last Ukrainians a week. In short though I want to root for the Ukrainians but it is not looking good for them, their supplies most probably will only grant them a short window for a counter offensive and the defensive fortification waiting for them probably will exhaust all their supplies by then. After the counter offensive most probably geopolitics will come into play and you will see more NATO or EU nations starts to maybe rethink drafting a blank check to Ukraine thinking it may end up like the stalemate of Korean War with the 38th parallels drawn with a DMZ and truce till this day.

@@trevortrevortsr2there was a video of Ukraine tank rolling into a anti tank ditch. This was also the first sort of anti tank ditch and dragons teeth defense a Ukraine has ran into and it seemed to have worked 🤷‍♂️

Not that hard 😂😂😂 Have you ever seen earth movers at work. While under fire?? I guess being the prime target on the battlefield. Then just driving up to the obstacle, take 10 minutes to remove enough obstacles…. While being consistently hit! Is not that hard 😂😂😂👍
