Hello, Roger. This is one of the best educational videos I've ever seen about the basics of radio receivers. Also, about MW receivers and the best antennas to use with them. Today, circuit design for RF is often based on chips which to all the job, but they're like black boxes for people who are trying to learn about basic RF design. Looking forward to the English version of the manual!

Actually, I remember mine was made the crudest way possible with a "cat's whisker" detector made from an old razor blade... and it worked! But, as you said, we lived pretty close to an AM tower. Glad to see that there are projects like this available for younger generations.

Actually, that is real crystal radio. It is certainly not something that uses SMT components. What joke of the video.

Hello again. I have been reading through the manual, and I came across the section where it says that a transformer could be used in the LC antenna tuner to match the its high impedance to the lower impedance of the detector and earphones. It also says that this reduces the voltage too and it's not desirable because the signal wouldn't have enough voltage for the detector. I have a question about this: what is really important? Voltage gain or power gain? Because impedance matching is usually assumed for maximum power gain. If we use a transformer in the LC tuner, voltage is reduced but current is raised (power is constant in a transformer). So, what should we care for? Voltage or power? Thank you!

Looking forward to this series! Can't wait - so much so I used google translate as I don't speak German :-{ It does a good job but doesn't translate the text in the photos.

Wow, lovly kit you made Was wondering if you could offer this through conrad? Tell me, why do I need a capacitor (what value) if using high empidence headphones? While I need a resistor if I use a crystal earpiece? I have some old ussr made 2000ohms headphones I can use Also, if you compare crxstal earpiece to high empidence headphones, what will pick up weaker stations?

You can buy it in our shop with worldwide delivery: www.ak-modul-bus.de/stat/detektorempfaenger1_crystal_radio_set1.html Why should we go to Conrad which would add another 100% to the price for their revenue?

In our shop: www.ak-modul-bus.de/stat/detektorempfaenger1_crystal_radio_set1.html But be aware that I still haven´t found the time to translate the German manual. And it´s not cheap.

AFAIK they don´t transmit AM/medium-wave in Germany any more for many, many years. Perhaps stilll in SW.

@@KainkaLabs To totally eliminate the battery, it maybe possible to charge a tiny Li ion battery using a high frequency rectifier diode and an antenna for always present RF signals. This setup would definitely be capable of providing forward bias current for the detector diode and also a tiny audio amplifier.
