Im going to go on a rant but as an Australian, I absolutely hate this movies portrayal of zoos and animal wranglers. Go to any zoo in Australia and they treat all their animals with kindness. They explain that all creatures, while some are deadly, are wonderful creatures we need to treat with respect while never engaging with them. Which makes sense when like 80% of native creatures are deadly. Steve Irwin basically set the standard for how to respect our wildlife. Having a "never judge an animal" with Australian animals does not work because we need to be taught not to treat them as friends. And having a generic "evil" animal wrangler is just not accurate. If you want to do a "don't judge animals" story then fine but do it like the pixar short Kitbull, not with deadly Australian animals. So yes, love and respect all animals, but do not go giving out your hand to pet a funnel web spider or taipan, cus youre gonna get bit

This is one of the best responses to a film review. Yes I do agree that uglier/deadly animals do need love, especially Aussie reptiles and arachnids. But it was a huge mishandle here. And what a STUPID move it was to include one of the most invasive species in Australia and give it a happy ending for the sake of that 'don't judge animals' moral. Yes that species is ugly, but that's not the reason many local Australians hate it. Also there are plenty of other Aussie animals I feel that could have a 'don't judge animals' message that aren't venomous. The thorny devil (Zoe) was a good start and maybe the Tasmanian devils, but we also have shingleback lizards/bobtails, peacock jumping spiders (THOSE are the ones that dance to impress a mate, not sure if funnelwebs like Frank do), Stimpsons or Woma pythons, several bat species that are not the flying fox/fruitbat (eg. the ghost bat) and a few others.

I just dont get why they had to use and inland Taipen. To show snakes aren't bad , while Taipens don't want to harm or kill humans. Yes they are dangerous and we do need to be wary of them, but while I do agree this film doesn't do a good job of the 'don't judge animals' moral, I guess they are doing this cause they are native animals important to the Australian ecosystem as scorpions and even funnel webs are actually food for even non-venomous animals and the fact taipans are apex predators. Plus we DID get scorpions and venomous snakes in ANOTHER netflix film some years ago- Sahara. Also, the fact he got annoyed with the dolphin episode of the Simpsons cause 'dolphins help people at sea' shows that he hasn't read up on the fact that dolphins are a lot more dangerous than people expect them to be. And I say these things as someone who is an Australian resident.

As an Australian I found this movie catered to the lowest common denominator, and a little offensive. Ignoring the fact it's basically a Madagascar clone, it's too Americanised. The use of imperial units is bad enough, though forgivable being such a small part, but more suggesting that "Pretty Boy" may have had rabies. Rabies DOES NOT exist in Australia. Rabies has been eradicated in Australia since around the 1950s, therefore nobody would have mistaken the frothing at the mouth as rabies. It was saved by well designed scenery, with the wildlife park being somewhat accurately portrayed for Taronga Zoo, including its location relative to the city itself, and the Blue Mountains (which I live near) did feel like home.
@ralpbeez84142 жыл бұрын
I didn't know Rabies was eliminated in Australia, that's pretty cool as a tidbit. Although even then, it's still such a weird move to want to mob kill the koala in the film, wouldn't people more likely trap it or call animal control themselves?

Speaking of 'Don't judge a book by its cover' when it comes to animals, I'm very surprised at least one type of Australian monitor isn't even in the main cast considering we had one as a villain sidekick in the Disney film, the Rescuers down under' (Also 'Big Bad Kenge' from the Lion guard, but I think his monitor species is more dangerous, plus its in Africa so I can leave that out here). I barely see any good press for these native apex predator lizards that aren't even as deadly (well to us, no though to other animals, yes) as the more infamous Komodo dragon (which they are related to). They would have been a better candidate than a saltwater croc.

❤💖 To be honest, I'm extremely disappointed 😞 with this movie. Don't get me wrong, I do loved the idea and concept of an animated film taking place in Australian Outback considering the fact that there has been a lack of animated films taking place in Australia 🇦🇺 since the Rescuers Down Under, Ferngully the Last Rainforest and Finding Nemo. I do get fed up and tired with every movie always taking place in New York City or Los Angeles. However, this one is poorly executed and poorly handled. The story is very predictable and it does feel like a ripoff of Madagascar and the writing, the animation although fine but the designs on the animals look way too cute and cartoony comparable to the backgrounds their designs feel out of place for this type of movie. This type of animated movie reminds me so much problem with another animated film with this type animation problem since the Good Dinosaur 🦕 where the backgrounds look real while the designs on the animals look way too cartoony and out of place for this type of story. The characters feel bland and one dimensional. The comedy and humor is way too juvenile and sugar coated towards kids. The message can be preachy towards the mainstream audiences. And the action scenes look dull and generic even comparable to the action intense scenes from the Rescuers Down Under. The only good aspect in this film is the voice acting at least the voice actors did their best and plus it does have an all star Australian cast. Yeah, this movie is basically the poor man's version of the Rescuers Down Under. We deserved better quality animated films taking place in Australia. Plus, I'm developing writing and planning making my own animated Australian Outback film and it is an animated musical film and it will star an Aboriginal Australian native boy 👦🏾 as the main character and few Australian animals as friends. This kid has a pet bilby/numbat who acts like his little conscience kinda similar to Jimmy Cricket from Pinocchio, Timothy Mouse from Dumbo, Sebastian from the Little Mermaid and bit comedic flare like the Genie from Aladdin and Mushu from Mulan. I wanted it to be 2d hand drawn animated film much like my personal favorite nostalgic childhood movie the Rescuers Down Under and bringing back classic beautiful 2d hand drawn animated and having an all star Australian cast. This movie may have subtle message and theme regarding environmentalism. 😃😀😄😁😊😉 👍🏻 💖❤

Have you even watched the movie? It shows that these animals are dangerous but only if messed with. The red back spiders in the movie were actually about to kill Pretty Boy

So here is my two cents - Australia has the most dangerous animals in the world. This movie trying to cutify them or say "they're actually not that bad". That Can actually be a harmful message to kids. These things are dangerous and should be met with caution. It kind of reminds me of that spider episode of peppa pig - this movie is a walking reminder that Larkins never came out. And that sucks.

Why did the snake and the koala have such romantic tension

In my opinion: its a 5/10, the movie gave me a lot of eye rolls ( especially Pretty Boy, when were introduced to him I instantly hated him and even at the redemption arc I still hated him) the animation is bit too vibrant for me. It’s so cliche I predicted half of it’s plot, but I did sorta like it but not a win in my book

I actually quite enjoyed this movie it's something I wish I had as a kid as I was interested in the dangerous animals snakes scorpions sharks etc if it had fangs or claws I loved them and I was bullied for it I was a huge Steve Irwin fan it's something Im definitely going to show my niece and nephew

I'm not sure if the designs work for this type of film. The animals look way too cute, especially the snake and the scorpion. Maybe they could have found a nice balance with their designs, as Disney did with Kaa and Tick Tock. Both of them are not too ugly or too cute.

(5/10) The Story (8/10) The Animation (5/10) The Characters I Give Back to the Outback (6/10) I Kinda think its Fine Mate
@JupiMeow2 жыл бұрын
The ending was so jarring. The whole film was about the problem and the journey and we had a mere few seconds to watch the creatures slithering towards the outback. That's it? They didn't even attempt to find their families before declaring themselves a family? We don't get to see Maddie reunite with her mom?? After everything??? I enjoyed the movie but the ending left a bitter taste in my mouth. In suspending my disbelief throughout the movie was difficult with how unrealistic it all was (a koala driving a fire truck? Trying not to roll my eyes)
