Glad you made it to anchor safe. Hope Grace's sleep issues don't last. If you can't find a gasket for the hatch you can soak it in hot soapy water and it should seal again. Those conditions definitely qualified as snotty, no doubt about it. Reminded me of a forecast light passage across Biscay that proved to be exactly the opposite. The relief of finally getting parked up in a sheltered spot was physical,mentally we were completely numb for several hours. Sorry to hear about the leaks, that sucks but as you said, better to find them before the big jump. Stay safe, cheers, R.

@robm.45128 ай бұрын
@@CalicoSkiesSailing 👍The stories have foundation, when it gets nasty there it’s very nasty indeed. It’s not a place to be scared of, just very certain of the true conditions because of the combination of an uninterrupted view of the Atlantic to the West, the bottom profile and the shape of the bay, which promotes a really lousy confused sea state due to reflections from multiple directions. Add that all to the prevailing Westerlies making it a lee shore and you’ll appreciate the potential problems. When it’s ok, it’s fine, nothing to fret over. When it’s not, it can become a bit lumpy or a little spot of hell on earth. Take it easy, hope you’re getting ahead of the dribbles! 😎👍🍻

There is an episode of sailing Brickhouse before the captain died of covid in south Africa about how to make your hatches more waterproof. If I remember right he put a bead of rope around the gaskets to make a tighter fit. You should go out and look for that episode, it will be back before covid, so a few year's. That or reach out to sailing Brickhouse and ask his widow who's sailed back to the Caribbean with Brickhouse.
