Skyrim is a place of many locations and perhaps none are quite as mysterious as Blackreach. A massive, ancient Dwemer city/cavern, Blackreach is easily The Elder Scrolls 5's largest subterranean region and is more of an underworld than simple dungeon. Complete with gorgeous glowing fungus and strange, still-power Dwemer machinery, Blackreach has baffled Skyrim players for years and in today's video we'll be exploring some of it's biggest mysteries and how they were recently revealed. Nice theory, but it's been made clear that they disappeared because of Kagrenac, who had a different aim. Though of course the only ones left to tell the tale are the Dunmers, and they could have changed stuff here and there.

I have 2 headcanons for dwarves, one lines up with this idea, in that when the dwarves disappeared they went back to before aldmer, this is why they are so advanced, as they basically go back to the beginning of the kalpa. This may or may not be intentional, but it means eventually they should finish their work, though it will take who knows how many cycles of kagrenac

Definitely a possible theory, but since crimson nirnroot is so scattered around the map I don't know if that's right. If they tried to or did breed the species I feel like there would be a highly concentrated area of them, or more near certain areas, after so long there wouldn't still be a neatly arranged crop of them but still higher concentrations closer to where they were being grown or signs that they had been being farmed at one point.

The mystery of all dwemer beings disappearing at once. I like to think someone tried to use tonal manipulation to displace someone in space time, but because of resonance, not only one or a few were targeted by such an "experiment", but all the same beings who would resonate with this frequency vanished. It was during a battle right? So maybe someone tried to make an experimental tactical move with this tech. Some Dwemer somewhere else in time and space has to explain to his friends what happened, maybe trying to revert it, while building a civilisation elsewhere. I love the mystery though.

Falmer is the original name of the Snow elves, similar to Altmer being called high elves, or the Dwemer being the Dwarves, etc. Snow elves is a name given to the Falmer by the Nords, describing their skin to be: "As Pale as the Snow itself." Snow Elves call themselves Falmer, but now since they are wretched beast of the underground, the Name Falmer only bring up thoughts of villany and wickedness now.

Maybe the Blackreach dragon wasn't down there waiting for you to "ring the bell," maybe shouting at that sphere, for a brief moment, reactivated whatever was taking all those creatures from across time and space and bringing them to Blackreach. My headcanon is that this dragon was Miraak's greatest ally, and by summoning him to Blackreach, you ripped him away from a great battle between Miraak and Alduin. You, the dragonborn, are the reason Miraak lost all those centuries ago.

@@julienmorozof8082 No it hasnt. (To clarify, ESO wasn't canon when it first came out and was basically Its own standalone non canon game. So they never followed established lore, rather created their own. Over time they tried crossing ESO into the rest of their ES universe by adding more lore which ended up screwing up a lot of stuff that was already established. Basically everything is now mixed into different parallel timelines that are formed from random cataclysmic events forming the dragon breaks.) It's a clever way of fucking up the lore while also saying it's all canon, even if it's contradicting itself. Pretty cool tho.

Zurelius I have ESO and stopped playing because of the combat. I like playing spellsword but it’s just not the same. And the sneak in the game is so weird for me, when I want to play a rogue it’s all just weird and annoying. My assumption was that the giant had wandered down some entrance and caused it to collapse because he's so big. I assumed that the Dwemer may have been interested in dragons (since they're the closest thing to deity manifest in ES besides Daedra) and brought down a skeleton to study, which Alduin was able to wake topside, but the dragon couldn't burst out of the ground like the resurrection we witness in game.

With magika you kinda force your way to bend the elements of nature wihtout touching the rules, with tonal manipulation you litterally rewrite the rules. For example i read a book on alteration, and you basically make the elements and events believe they should behave one way instead of another, kinda like setting the lower energy state in physics, the state where all things tend to fall. Like instead of letting a river flow downwards, you make so the lowest potential energy is at the top, so water would start flowing backwards by its own. You are not changing the rules, simply shifting the direction. The rule is still true but the direction it flows is relative. I believe it could have something to do with destruction, illusion and all the others too. With destruction you could simply reverse entropy, maybe with restoration you alter the flow of local time. Illusion uses the concept of relativity, things are there but how they appear is relative just like the direction of time. While conjuration is tied only to comunicating to the different dimensions, although the means of reaching them could be of similar like changing the concept of space or distance. With tonal you can instead rewrite the rules like dragons do when they speak

I feel like blackreach was left massively unfinished. It’s legit just a big area with nothing of interest or value in it apart from needing to explore it for the main quest. It has a few random buildings throughout, but it’s mainly just empty and those buildings when entered are tiny and lack anything of value. Probably meant to be a larger part of the game, but ran out of time to make it into what they originally wanted.

Cosma is a member of the dwarven that has time travelled, that's why he knows how to fix it and where the parts were. He time travelled back to prevent others from figuring out how to time travel. Also, we cnt see his facial features and ears, we could reference any description of how a typical dwarven race member looks like(might be wrong here). But the fact that dwarven armour(are able to equip) and cities are the same size as a normal player, we shouldn't assume that cosma is NOT a dwarf. Edit: his armour looks similar to dwarven armour.

And on top of that, the dissaperance of the Dwemers happened after the Atherium wars where they were all at peace, my best guess is that the Dwarves knew they'd lose against the Nords during the Civil War of Men V. Mur and used Blackreach as a gateway to Red Mountain to obtain unspeakable power from it (it is theorized that the Lava of red mountain contains the power to control time) and during their attempt to obtain it, they were sucked into some time warp similar to how Alduin was when they used the elder scroll on him and now time is just waiting to spit the Dwemer back out to restart their civilizations in a much later time.

Michael Kirkbride (who's the mad genius who took the random, contradictory lore of Daggerfall and turned it into the random, contradictory lore that hints at an underlying truth that has been lost or reinterpreted over millennia that is the Elder Scrolls lore we all love) after (amicably) leaving Bethesda, released a rough draft of a secret pet project for the Elder Scrolls universe, a graphic novel called C0DA. Technically it's non-canon, but even that is suspect since it's refered to in the mysterious 37th Sermon of Vivic you can find in ESO: Morrowind (the first letter of each word of the only line in quotes in that sermon make up the site's web address, with the word zero being the number 0.) It was part of an idea he had of creating an "opened source" lore for the Elder Scrolls, and the site even has a few additional works created by others as part of its collection. What is the C0DA about? The end. It's the 5th Era, the Thalmor have (apparently) succeeded in the Final Solution of Humanity (while not expressly stated, the only reference to humans all come from flashbacks) only for the Numidium to show up and utterly destroy Tameriel, forcing everyone still alive to flee to... wait for it... space, to live on one of the moons. ...And it just gets crazier, cause the Numidium is there as a result of a forgotten Dragon Break that occured when Tiber Septim turned it on to fight the Thalmor and Aldmeri Dominion during his conquest at the end of the *Second* Era, and it's actually existing simultaneously to fight the Thalmor in both periods (which yes, means that time is not exactly stable, so the whole thing might just be a *potential* future that's playing itself out before Akatosh fixes it) What does all of this have to do with the fate of the Dwarves? Well, according to the C0DA, the souls of the entire Dwemer race were infused into the Numidium when they disappeared, which is partly why it's a time-destroying terror every time its turned on. It has also managed to weaponize the Dwarven race's skepticism to *disbelieve its enemies out of existence* if their own will/self-assurance isn't strong enough, and supposedly can do this to even gods and Daedra. Anyway, it finally gets defeated when the hero achieves CHIM, a state where a person is aware of the "Godmind" that created the world, but is still capable of maintaining their own individuality within it (most who become aware fade away, either to nonexistence or to become the Godmind of a new universe) and pulls a Deadpool by decapitating the Numidium with his speech bubble. And then marries Lord Vivic, whose actually Lady Vivic now, because reasons. So... yeah.

The disappearance of the entire dwemer race has so much potential for explanations. With the time machine included, I would really like to see a story based around falmer vengeance to the dwemer, back in the time when falmer actually still had the intelligence and civility of the original snow elves. I like the idea that there might have been a planned falmer assault to abuse the time machine to wipe out the entire dwarven DNA from the reality. That would even provide a good explanation of how falmer, who afterwards remained imprisoned and isolated in the empty dwarven cities with dangerous automata guardians, eventually lost their sanity and became mindless violent creatures.

So, crackpot theory. The dragonborn had limited control over this device. shouts are a form of tonal manipulation, if I'm seeing this right when the device is repaired in blackreach the "sun" becomes more complex indicating it is part of the device. the dragonborn exerts pure tonal force onto one of the devices nodes and it yanks a dragon out of some other point in spacetime. which would explain why Vuthoryol never shows up beforehand and doesn't seem to come from anywhere in blackreach when it appears.

I really want to see more about the Dwemer in Elder Scrolls 6. Maybe an expansion explaining what happened or maybe their return

My theory: Thaddeus if from Starfield. The Dwemer left skyrin and went to starfield.

Plot Twist: The Dwemer are from an Alternative timeline, where the Empire was conquered by the Elf's, and they discovered the heart of locken, and Akatosh was so pissed at them, so he sent them back in time.

Maybe the dragon was down there because someone stole his sweetroll and could not figure out who did it. The Dwemer are vastly mysterious, so they would be prime suspects in this matter. And when he got down there, he found them at a table littered with sweetrolls, and his presence scared them so greatly that they time travelled away from him, taking the sweetrolls with them and causing cave-ins all across Blackreach. Hence, Vulthuryol was trapped down in that humble glowy abode, eternally raging that he'll never taste the glorified sweetness of a sweetroll again... Well, maybe not eternally. Our esteemed Dragonboy ensured that.

hmm imagine in th enext game if they go thr route where the wars are escalating into a ffa and all vs aldmeri dominion and suddenly the dwarves reappear and start taking back their places and chasing out the falmer out of their cities

I did "return to your roots" without a guide. I love finding the beacon and I am currently leaving no stone unturned. Crazy how people don't find it relaxing and get a dopamine boost when you find one all on your own.

Got lost in Blackreach while playing Skyrim when it came out, stopped playing any Elder Scrolls game a few days after since nothing else could match that feel. Picked up ESO a few months ago and got lost in Blackreach again.

The East Indian Vedas (I think) or maybe it's some other story, about a man and daughter who traveled to visit a great Lord about a marriage. They didn't realize that the different dimension they were traveling to had a different rate of time. This Lord greeted them graciously but had to sadly inform them that all the people they new (including a betrothed) had already past away. For the Dwemer it may only be a moment in time.

I feel likeit's important to note that, like most games in general, The Blackreach that you see is only a representation of the writers intention. Otherwise, the developers entire budget would have gone into making an underground city the size and scope of a small country.

In the middle of watching the video, and I would almost bet Arkngthamz was the initial discovery point of black reach, because it's located in the area of the map known as the reach, and any subterranean city should and would probably be labeled the black part of the reach or later shortened to just blackreach.

Ive gotten to blackreach without the lifts once by cave systems and i was surprised until i realized "nope not a new location just random entry to blackreach AGAIN..."

I’d be interested in a future Elder Scrolls game where the plot revolves around the Dwemer just suddenly appearing again, having all been transported into the future
