Believe it or not, this really is the first time I have personally owned a Dell Dimension system, and so far, it's been pretty good. I've since gotten it running a clean copy of Windows XP Pro, and it now sports an ATI Radeon 9600 and a Pinnacle PCTV Pro (Bt878-based) capture card, along with a full 2GB of RAM.
Soon after making this video, I tested out all the drives, and the floppy drive and bottom CD drive did not seem to work. The floppy drive would throw read errors, and the CD drive usually wouldn't open, and the few times it did, it couldn't get focus lock when I got a CD into it. The problem, as it turned out, was very simple: just like the rest of the computer, those drives were full of dust! The heads in the floppy drive and the laser lens in the CD drive had accumulated dust on them, and the fix was as simple as cleaning them off with a Q-tip and alcohol. Between that and putting a new belt* in the CD drive, both of those drives are now functional.
