All the participants' dedication to the reenactment is such a joy to see, especially by those we've known for years, so Zach is a very welcome addition. Thanks, also, for featuring a tabletop battle with miniatures (that's more my thing). If anyone knows the gaming system used for that game, I'd appreciate it.

One of the main reasons I go to Tewkesbury is for the market. Such a great one with a huge range of products. With the free entry I think it's also a great one to suggest visiting to friends and co-workers who haven't been to a re-enactment before.

@@ZacharyEvans For about the last 2 months, our lows each night have been about 25. Highs have been 40+….it’s been hitting 43 the past week or so and is supposed to stay that way for a while. Other than for about an hour a couple of weeks ago, we haven’t had any rain since around Feb. I’m in France next week and it looks like I’m bringing the Texas heat with me. We’d *love* it to be in the upper 20s. We’d joust all day in that! ;-) …but I about froze my butt off at night last week when I was at an event in Oregon when it got down to 10. ;-) Stay cool.

It's funny how the body acclimatises to temperatures it's used to. I find it hard to sleep inside once I've had a weekend away in a tent, because I feel so warm. I think what we struggle with here is that the heat comes in waves: we have a week or two of very hot, then it goes back down again.

Gee, 1 guy with a warhammer would have a field day on these guys since most of them aren't wearing any proper padding under their armor, allowing for full knetic force to pass threw and also not creating pressure against denting..... It's like watching a holywood movie! But hey "historically", also before you go the "ahh but too hot for padding!", expect the padding also keeps heat out, especially since steel absorbs heat and retains it.
@ZacharyEvans
@ZacharyEvans 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. What evidence do you have for padding under plate armour in the 15th Century? What would you describe as "Proper Padding?"
@Drachinifel
@Drachinifel 2 жыл бұрын
I can assure you we were all wearing arming doublets which are sufficient to the purpose, most of us were actually hit by various weapons with significantly more heft than a single handed warhammer and we failed to die. When you are wearing plate/brigandine there is little to no historical evidence for becoming the Michelin man with.overly done padding, and it actually can badly restrict your movement leaving you vulnerable.
@peterpan4962
@peterpan4962 2 жыл бұрын
Well I could see a few wearing doublets or even Gambesons, but I saw a lot of people at least from my perspective that weren't, seemed most where wearing linnen shirts styled as a Gambesons but wasn't actually one. And there is also no historical evidence that it's smart to directly wear plate against your skin, for several reasons, especially in high tempratures. Taking my statement to a extreme to try and dismiss it is just silly. Also, if we're talking 15th century, you'll be facing someone in full steel plate who doesn't need to use a shield and who will be using a 2h warhammer. Also if pikes and warhammers weren't a problem, explain : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Morgarten And I have about 101 more historical examples I can refer too.
@peterpan4962
@peterpan4962 2 жыл бұрын
@@ZacharyEvans I consider something like a Gambesons, although that can be used as armor itself as proper padding. I forgot how you call the less filled version. I'm guessing the less filled version is used under plate armor because I can't find anything definitive on which was used with what, just that they where used in combination with plate and chain. Usually made out of leather and wool or leather and linnen. As for the evidence, you do not ask someone to proof that god doesn't excist, someone has to proof god excists. I did do an other post that dissappeared for some reason linking the first museum's that I got on google research on the matter. From what I saw in the video and got me dissappointed was that it looked like a lot of people where wearing basic t-shirts simply styled to look like a Gambeson. But dare I ask what makes you think you don't wear padding under plate armor in the 15th century ? Especially since if you where wearing proper steel plate of high quality, the only thing that could really harm you would something with enough kenetic energy to break you inside your armor or dent it too the point it crushes you ? And if you want proof that kenetic energy is lessend by padding, enough youtube videos you can find people running tests proving just that (although in some cases you would wonder if it would be worth it considering the minimal effects).
@Drachinifel
@Drachinifel 2 жыл бұрын
@@peterpan4962 everyone in that lineup ox the photo is wearing an arming doublet, apart from anything half the armour won't stay on without something substantial to attach it to via points. Nobody is wearing a shirt only under the armour, or wearing the armour against their skin.
