One of the hardest things about growing up was coming to the realization that no matter how hard I try, I can never relive this era. Old School just isn't the same, and it never can be. The playerbase has all grown up. We know everything. The game is no longer full of "infinite" possibilities and interactions. That realization made me quit OSRS a few years back. I was chasing something I could never catch, and it was negatively impacting my life.

Everyone I talk to thats played back then talks about this almost mysterious vibe of adventure and possibility the game had. Like a true sense of exploration and wonder where it felt like you could never possibly know or solve everything. There was almost a tangible feeling to the game like it was in the air. When you played runescape back then it somehow felt so immersive, connected, alive, and welcoming. The same way the seasons seems to bring a familiar feeling of the past, or as the decades pass there are distinct eras you can "feel", Runescape had a very unique and captivating aura to it. Almost impossible to describe but comforting knowing that so many other people genuinely understand that feeling too even if we can only sometimes feel a hint of it through memory.

Instead osrs seems to be filled mostly with adults in their mid to late 20s talking like sailors about the world, and life. The kids back then grew up, became corrupt along with the world and brought the corruption to the world of Old School Runescape. The Osrs chat these days is a cesspool. If you don't believe me join the Zezima cc xD. Back in 2005, it was filled with kids just enjoying the game and talking about the game. It was like discovering a new world back then so everything was much brighter. Online MMORPGs are a part of cyber life these days. @@TheSCPStudio In 2005? Naa, the Evil Chicken took care of 'em. Besides, worlds were filled to the brim with players. Instead of having so many worlds that you only get 200 players per world, all the worlds had 1500-2000 players. Also, there were players everywhere. People traded in banks all over. Now GE is the only place people trade, and 99% of the trading is done automatically, silently, through the clerks in blue.
@Tiwill3 жыл бұрын
@Matriks I know what you mean. It's very hard to fight back against that wave of negativity. But... the game changed as well, and I think some people changed specifically because the game did. I'd like to believe that if the game had remained the same since 2005, the spirit of the journey would have lived on. Less of the original playerbase would have quit, too. A lot of the playerbase got replaced with new players who never experienced how things were before, and even though people from 15 years ago came back.. the internet changed them. With no replacement game in 15 years, that changes how a man views and plays his vidja games. But my point is.. Even if someone came back to the game with the same mentality as before, they would get assimilated because the GE actively prevents that mentality from existing. And all the convenience items they added. You'd have to pretend you're playing a past version of the game, with friends who use the same self-restraint as you, and then attempt to start a movement in-game.. it's very much an uphill battle.

What I love about this time in RuneScape and further back to RuneScape classic times, dating all the way back to an even earlier time starting from devious mud was that Andrew got on his computer to see, this game would be able to supported if he tried to make it be fixable, flexible, cleaning the graphics and such. This is a very early time for Java, RuneScape and almost every other web browser game was starting off as a Java game as well cause Almost no-one knew the C programming language other then Nintendo and only a few more companies While the players saw new content being added each year, they would also see that someday, Jagex would be cleaning up the graphics slightly, but it was going to get better! They seemed to start off from converting 8 bit graphics into 16 bit, 32 bits, 64 bits, it now looks very high detail and it looks like a HD game that everyone could play on almost every last device everywhere! When they graphically reworked some areas, it may have looked like there was no need to, but Jagex knows what it takes to keep getting money, if they don’t make the games graphics and stability alive and well, ya, some jmods did point out that well, if there was no Jagex mods then there’s also no RuneScape servers, a client, no working website with download links etc lol

I miss when most people didn't care about being super optimal/efficient when it came to playing the game. It was pretty fun spending time talking with friends and strangers at woodcutting and fishing areas. Grand exchange made selling and buying items extremely convenient where you can just search for your desired item and then wait for your order to be processed when you are AFK/logged out. There is barely any need to manually type/use autotypers to tell others what you are selling and buying anymore, manually trading by clicking on other players as the only way to trade items made people much more active back then because most of their attention was looking at the game screen to manage the purple trade messages in the chat bar.

Indeed, this is an old video about an old video of runescape. Wonder why the algorithm chose this

Seeing how choppy this video is reminded me of all the times my mom would yell at me about putting a virus on the computer playing RuneScape.
