Yes we are! Seeding is going but i am still trying to post some harvest stuff. I have like three farms lined up who i can go record at. In the steep stuff. Its not as steep at the new place i work but thats ok.

Great Video Trevor, I really enjoy watching your harvest Video's Tell me whats your favourite job? When your doing that Job. what your favourite colour and breed of machine you enjoy driving?
@TrevorStruthers3 ай бұрын
I like CASE machines. I'd much rather be in a quad track in the hills than anything else. They don't leave ruts and can go up and down about anything because they have an exhaust brake. Same with combines, I think I'd rather drive a red one.

On those radius corner turns, does anybody go back and harvest the small patches of uncut grain, or is it not worth the effort?
@TrevorStruthers3 ай бұрын
We leave the corners and get them at the end of the field (hopefully we get them all). Just makes for less time out of the cut.
@timhenrichs3 ай бұрын
Yes they do after finishing the main body. Essentially they are corner cuts, so they will all line up, so they just go up the corners turn around and go down. They don't cut each small piece individually, run through them all in one direction and turn around and finish them off the other direction. If multiple combines are being run, usually one finishes those corner pieces while the other one opens another section of the field to start cutting.
@John-nc4bl3 ай бұрын
Many custom harvesters just round off the corners as it saves time because thay do not have to back up at the end of the cut and line up again. Then one person cuts from the center of the square going out diagonally one way cutting the left over little circles and goes back again diagonally towards the center finishing them off. No wheat stalks are left uncut. This is a much more efficient way of harvesting in big fields.

Just curious how long a guy will run harvester in a day? If I have decent phone reception for podcasts n music n shit, I could do 16+ hours in one I think. Or at least download enough stuff for that long. I don't see that being a GPS kinda job, so an operator is mentally engaged. Maybe someday I'll get to have a go at it, or at least run grain cart. I drive a redimix truck in Seattle, very high center of gravity, moving load etc, very challenging mentally. Physically it beats the shit outta me, but the more challenging it is the more I love it.

Some crews run from 6:15 and cutting by 7am and stopping at 8PM. So 13 hours straight seat time with no breaks to speak of unless you break down. Combine is rough. Bankout at least you get a moment to eat something.
