The area you live in is absolutely gorgeous. I love the beautiful rock homes and the town is so quaint. You are a very lucky man with your farm and children! The countryside of England always makes me wish that I lived there.

The batteries on this float were at least 15 years old when this was filmed .As the average life of a Milk float battery was about six years i'm surprised it would do six miles. The charger looks like a very early 80's Chloride Spegel ,they don't make them like that anymore. The cost of a new battery would be about £2000 so I don't think Daisy was getting a new set any time soon.

Richard, My father was a milkman in Australia in the 60's & early 70's using a horse and cart. Your electric milk cart reminds me of the one out of the British TV series "Open All Hours".

I worked on a float jst like that out of eccleshill dairy i started as a milk ladd at age 8 and done it for 13 yrs ..i stopped when the arse fell out of it due to supermarkets at the age of 21 ....i still had a full time job as well at 16 but still done the milk ...i love the sound of the clicks as it goes through the gears ..i remember going down a long road with a slight incline and a full load on going about 40 mph and it used to shake like mad .it did take some stopping though lol....i always said i would do my own run and if it came back today i would do it tomorrow ...

The Batteries are known as traction battery cells, each rated at 2.5 volts. Add the total cells divided by 2.5 gives you the vehicle voltage. Providing all the cells are in good order it would run at full speed for about 5 to 7 hours. This would give enough for a reasonable milk round. From what I could hear from the clicking the drive speed is via contacter, as a set speed is reach the next contacter clicks-in allow more power and so on up to full speed. The charger on back will take either 8 or 12 hours to full recharge the batteries

Delivered milk for 37 yrs, had one of these at some point....the pedals are reversed so you don't accidentally put your foot on the accelerator as you get back in....

@@janklaas3242 I guess you're from the U.S.? It was called a Sunbeam over there but we Brits know it as a Hillman Imp. Reminiscent of the Chevvy Corvair.

for delivering milk chinese electric cargo chain drive style trikes using high rpm planetary gearbox motors would likely of climbed steep hills better and been lighter and more efficient and faster and got more range with the same battery capacity and consumed less battery current due to being lighter vehicles
