It makes me quite sad to see Ballybay looking so dead in the photos. I visted Ballybay every year as a child from 1960 to 1978 when the town was buzzing. On Saturday nights the cars would be double parked, every pub and shop was open. My grandparents were Clearkins from Aughnamullen and Cummins from Swans Cross. I am 60 now but I still love visiting, this place has special memories .

Is that because of the Coronavirus/Covid I wonder that it is so empty? Thank you anyway.

My great great grandparents, Bernard McKenna and his wife Mary Duffy, came from the Ballybay area. Their first two daughters Mary and Ellen were born there before they left in 1865 for America.
