I also find York to be a breathtaking city; the history is ..........? I can't find the words. The minster is really mind blowing, especially for someone from Canada and someone who has never left North America. I've watched many documentaries about the city so I am very familiar with it but it is much better being shown from the view point of someone's personal video camera. Thank you Terri and Lol! ♥

Hello Terri, a very interesting video thank you. I enjoyed visiting York my maternal ancestral home area. My family history traces back as far as Medieval Briton, some Viking ancestry too. As most families in Britain, I agree with you, buildings built and made to last, a skilled job keeping up with the renovations. I like the smaller church St Michaels in the square, it has a hushed tone to it in the peace and quiet after the bustle of The Shambles, the energy is calming. I enjoy the Viking history and the various reenactment groups, here in the Northwest. Chester 20 minutes away by train is another ancient city that has seen its fair share of battles and religious warfare. Thankfully we aren't condemned or fined for our preferences in that regard, we owe a lot to our ancestors. Once again glad you both had a great trip and worthwhile event that you attended. Hugs and Blessings to you both.💚🌹

Thank you Terri for another lovely video. My husband is from Sunderland, his parents have both passed away now, but when our daughters were young we used to visit them every summer. We visited York a few times, it truly is a gorgeous place steeped with history. I love visiting stone circles etc but my second great love of history is the Vikings, and the Jorvik centre is brilliant. Did you know that the famous Dick Turpin is buried in a small graveyard in York, we visited his grave once, and his cell. The Black Swan that we had our lunch in, displayed his body in the window after they hung him!, apparently wealthy travellers were still wary of travelling the route from York to London so they displayed his body to prove he was dead. Xx
@DanusIrishHerbGarden4 ай бұрын
The Jorvik Centre is brilliant - so much knowledge held by the staff. I knew about Dick Turpin's connection to York but was disappointed to find out that he was an actual thug and not really a romantic highwayman. But who knows for sure??? xx

Great tour and I love York! There may be older cities in England and it may just be me but no other place in England to me has the tangible feel of ancient history, of the spirits of the ancestors as York has - almost like a portal or spot where the veil is thinner.
@DanusIrishHerbGarden4 ай бұрын
It is a special place, AND, I discovered, the Mother Goddess was extensively worshipped there in the past. Statues and images of a mother goddess were the most common artefacts found. Lots of premises boast a ghost and English TV did an article years and years ago - when some work men were digging the road up, to lay gas pipes or something, lots of them saw Roman centurions. I think it is definitely a place where the veil is thinner - it has that timeless quality. Have a great week Mike xx

thank you for the lovely tour. My dad's family is from York. I was so happy to see the beauty of the city.

Wonderful. I grew up in York. Things have changed so much since I lived there 10 years ago, but somehow all the ancient things stay the same. It's comforting.

It is comforting - it has only changed a little since I was last there, 35 years ago. xx

You have a wonderful garden! I would like to come to Irland anx Scotland to see abby churches where the sick would have been treated. 😊😊

There are definitely ancient abbeys in Wales and Scotland that had physic gardens and have been hospital sites, very interesting to visit and see the plants they would have used xx
