John Baharim is a Catholic Church located in Ein Karen which is a small pastoral village on the western side of Jerusalem
The Church belongs to the Royal Family in Spain but is under the municipality in Jerusalem.
Inside the Church under the apse, there is a small cave called ‘crypt’ which is believed to be the place where John the Baptist was born. The cave used to be a part of John’s home and belonged to his parents, Zechariah and Elizabeth.

My name is Zahi Shaked
In 2000 I became a registered licensed tourist guide.
My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.
Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this "calling" in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, "glide" over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water, and "see" the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many-faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be implanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

@@just_ben1951 I realize that this seems hard to believe but it is what it is and what happened happened. All I can say was as I prayed for my dad who was just diagnosed with prostate cancer that evening I stood out on my deck around midnight and prayed like anyone would pray for someone who was just told that they had cancer. My dad asked me to pray for him. After saying everything to the Lord I could think of ,I decided to repeat John3:16 over and over when I heard noises coming from the woods in our backyard. I immediately assumed the sounds were from deer going through the brush since there is alot of deer back there. When I looked in the direction of the sounds, I was shocked beyond words. There was Jesus walking slowly out of the woods down a hillside that bottoms to a creek. He was in his transfigured state . He was beautiful, in a beautiful golden white light. He was about 30 feet tall and his hands were several times larger than a normal person's hands. I had the opportunity to stare at his hands , thinking that I could see a hole where they nailed him to the cross . There was no opening. As he walked down the hill he stopped and stared at me when he got to the bottom of the creek. He stayed long enough for me to get a good look at his face to see facial details. I strained my eyes as hard as I ever had before and when I looked at his face like I never looked at anything before I found that he had absolutely no facial features but his face was bright golden color. As I wept saying Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. He took off like lightning ,following the creek. He is beautiful and full of love . He is now in his transfigured state like Peter, James and John described him in the new testament. When I am on my last breath, that is who I am going to. Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth bless you. John3:16.

He will bring him back from sickness to health Blessed be the Lord of Israel from age to age. For those that are rich in the heart, that they may find blessings, and generosity to the poor, and hungry. So sad that you couldn't explain much of the places within the church because of the reconstruction going on at the material time. I had visited the place in August 2023. There was a Byzantine cross with fifteen symbols depicted as icons on the cross. I wanted to hear more about this. Thanks anyway.
