Since Proctor, MN is only a short drive from Duluth, MN I went up there for a short bit to see if anything was happening at the former DMIR Yard. Luckily I saw a DMIR SD38-2 pair switching the yard and then heard the distant horn of a Southbound. Turns out that Southbound was a ore train led by a pair of IC SD40-3s and a DMIR tunnel motor and the distinctive DMIR labeled short hoppers or ore jennies. These come loaded from the Minntac Mine in Mountain Iron, MN and stop at Proctor before heading down to the CN ore docks in Duluth when needed. Also worth noting the empty ore train with the BLE and IC in the lead, I would see them a couple days later. Definitely one of the more scenic yards out there. A brief stop to the local museum featuring a Yellowstone type steam locomotive is also featured. Enjoy and don't forget to comment and subscribe!!!
