This one's from several weeks back as I haven't been out and about much (considering the colder/rainy weather and the... you know... pandemic). I was exploring a few various parts of southeast Portland that, surprisingly, I haven't seen much in my life. As i wandered about I ended up on the fringe of Westmoreland and the historic Reed College. A good chunk of this video is focused on the college but also my walk through the Reed neighborhood which is really quite small and, interestingly enough, Reed College is not actually in the Reed neighborhood.

When I was a pre-teen in the 1960`s & my parents lived on 36th avenue I used to ride my bicycle all over those areas you videoed. Really like your videos of historical events.

I've been unclear as to whether they actually mean about closed to public so I haven't approached campus lately. It's too bad because I love the architecture. Crystal Springs was open this summer but half the park was closed off and the rest was kind of...one-way? They had arrow signs to encourage social distancing. That was August, though.

I went to a house party near Reed College in 1990, and tried acid for the first time. It was everywhere. :o Probably age 18 or so. We then drove across the river to the super trendy Burlingame grocery store (the owner later burned it to the ground himself -arson- in 2001 and was caught on his own surveillance video, and subsequently convicted. The arson fire also destroyed a couple businesses next to it) When we visited, it seems like we spent 4 hrs in there perusing their microbrew selection (this was when microbrew was a new, upcoming thing in the area) and their selection of organic fruit. lol. Here's the story on the 2001 Burlingame Grocery arson pamplinmedia.com/component/content/article?id=119841 since I know you like local history. Also, for older Portland fire history.. The Great Fire of 1873 took out a huge swath of Portland (west of the river). Might make for interesting research and a new episode ----> Great Fire of 1873 - Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Fire_of_1873

I really enjoyed that. I don't think I've ever gotten a good look at anywhere in Oregon before. (I only knew where it was when you walked past a car and I paused the video and saw the license plate.) Your NIMBY rich people would probably just hate me. I live in a rent-subsidized apartment in a Seniors' building. I keep my apartment spotless and shining so they know what they can do with their prejudice. I completely agree with you about housing. I had to wait for nearly 2 years for my name to come up on a list to get this place.

No souls needed to be sold. Just able to work real hard as my father did for 6 days a week as a union plumber in the 1960`s.
