They didn’t do the walk full justice in the movie. In the book she’s in a wheel chair by the time they get married, but she gets up to walk down the isle to Landon (I don’t remember for sure; but I think she has to be in the wheel chair for the actual wedding). The fact that she walked at all at the wedding was the important part.

It’s been well over a decade since I read the book, but I do remember feeling a little betrayed by some of the key differences, like the time period, the retrospective from an older Landon, and whooo, the gut punch of the bit where Jamie was sick with something curable by modern standards and she probably would have lived had it been a decade or so later.

I also remember that Landon isn’t a “bad” kid. He actually meets Jamie because he wins a school election and is required to bring a date to a school dance, and he waits too long and asks her because no one else is available. She then asks him to join the school play and he agrees. They become friends pretty naturally. His friends are a tad confused and a little rude, but not antagonistic. The dad storyline makes more sense, as he’s an absent congressman, not a divorced doctor who seems to actively care about his kid.

I read the book back in high school, but i remember her wedding being much more sad. She was in a wheelchair and couldn’t walk properly but it was her dream to walk down that aisle. Landon describes it at the most difficult thing he has seen someone do and when she made it to the alter everyone was crying and in joy. She did the rest of the wedding sitting down and him on his knees in front of her.

I think, what I like about this move is that it depicts Christian as humans, not stereotypical haters of everyone not Godly. I wish there were more stories about this where Christians are relatable flawed humans, with compelling stories that just want to share God's unconditional love.

theres a good movie called 'Where the Heart Is" that literally has a character depicting the good, flawed but loving Christian and a couple characters depicting the fake self-righteous "Christians" ( what Jesus called "wolves in sheep's clothing" )...plus its a good movie, all around...but I love that it shows both sides.

The book for this was epic, I remember crying for the whole last half of the book while reading it. Also this was Mandy Moore's first staring role - she had previously only been in supporting roles. It was also when she first dyed her hair brown and left her blonde hair behind her (which seems like a small thing, but she's basically been a brunette ever since this movie and it was a big deal to her at the time.)

Tha fact that that I just finished this book today and this video showed up in my feed is icing on the cake. 👌❤❤ Also the "walk" in the book is about her walking down the aisle: "With all the strength she had left, Jamie stood shakily as her father supported her. Then Jamie and Hegbert slowly made their way down the aisle...It was, I remembered thinking, the most difficult walk anyone ever had to make. In every way, a walk to remember. " I cried so much today, thanks for the laughs. 💕

The library in one tree hill was my high school library. Then when I was in undergrad at UNCW I ran through a scene when they were filming because I was trying to get to class. Then my sophomore year, Nicholas sparks came to speak. I didn’t want to go, A walk to remember was the only one of his books I like, but my mom and aunt went. I went to a meeting and when I got back to campus, I was behind his Bentley!

I just remember they were blocking the chancellors walk, I only had 15 minutes between classes (normally was no problem) and was cursing the entire cast and crew. I saw an opening and ran! I never went looking specifically for me, but I did point out my school library when girls in my freshman dorm were watching old episodes!

Okay, but the thing to know about ALL Nicholas Sparks movies/books is they have some element of sadness. Someone's true love or parental figure or something is dead or dies. OR someone forgets the person they love. I saw this movie in theaters with my mom and for some reason, my mom didn't realize that it was going to be a sad movie? I think kid me was super suspicious when I saw the trailer. In any case, the music in this case got stuck in my head for weeks. And it's also funny how a lot of the music from this movie is used in ship/couple music videos for different fandoms.

I remember having friends who loved this movie but I only saw it once and was so emotionally moved that I could never rewatch it. It's so memorable though. Now that I'm older and wiser I do see the unideal trope of the female protagonist dying as a means to move the male protagonist's emotional journey. That kind of hit at the end. However, I do think she skirts the manic pixie dream girl cardboard treatment. I think one of the things that I found so sweet about it when I watched it as a teen was how he is there for her in the way that she wants and needs him to be. Once they are a couple, he respects her boundaries and when he processes the news of her leukemia, he doesn't try to make it about him. It isn't about him guiding her or trying to teach her something or trying to take control of her final months. He listens to what she wants and tries to fulfill that in the best way possible. The first half or more of the movie is a teen romance with a lot of campy tropes. But the end is a mature romance that actually shows what healthy love in a teen relationship can look like.

1:33 I have a weird thing with cancer media like your dad. Both my grandparents died of cancer, two of my great uncles I was very close to. My mom suffered from cancer multiple times and so did my sister. No event was more traumatic than the other. We celebrated my sister “conquering” cancer, only for her to it to come back a year later as if she never received a double mastectomy and chemotherapy. My nephew, her son, would also loose his school teacher to breast cancer. I drove her to radiation and all I could do was sit in my car and pray. My mom cried herself to sleep most nights. She once was casually talking about her days and said, “…then I come home, get into bed, and cry myself to sleep because my baby is dying.” People talk about the ethics of true crime a lot, trauma and unexpected lost is complicated. I get it’s different. I cry for days after a character in a show gets that unexpected diagnosis, I’m looking at you “Dead to me.” But yeah I get what your dad was saying I think.

All the movies based on Nicholas Sparks novels are good. Watch The Last Song, The Notebook, and I think they made a To Kill A Mockingbird movie, though I don't remember. The movies based on Tom Clancy novels are pretty good too. I'd recommend a classic, The Breakfast Club, but you guys don't look like the types.

Mandy Moore was just so sweet 🥹 as Jamie… secretly having no idea exactly when leukaemia was going to take her… So she didn’t care whatsoever about being liked by the popular kids… or getting herself more peer acceptable clothing for school… what would be the point? She just worried about her dad losing her (having already lost his wife/her mom)… so I get why she didn’t bother asking her dad if she could change her wardrobe. Even though had she asked her dad, he probably WOULD have helped her buy more clothes for school, and JEANS instead of Little House on the Prairie dresses. This was all probably why she withdrew to more solo/introverted activities like exploring the stars with telescopes 🔭. As a fellow introvert, I fully get her attraction to telescopes & the galaxies 🌌 in the night skies. She was probably constantly thinking about her next chapter with God.
