My heart is so warm watching this, knowing that it could help so many. I don't have Autism but having not used an airport as an adult independently before (flown as a kid lots of times) I kinda have a better idea now.

Whilst I wont be needing OCS staff, I'm flying long haul on my own next week (bricking it..) and this walkthru has proved invaluable to me. Thanks for posting.

Wow! I don't have autism but this is a fantastic video! Seriously! Who knew? It is extremely important that people with autism do have a video explaining processes simply and easily since travelling by air (particularly nowadays) can be very stressful for people who don't even have autism - which begs the question "WHY IS IT MORE HELPFUL TO VIEW A VIDEO RECORDED FOR PEOPLE WITH AUTISM EVEN IF YOU DON'T HAVE AUTISM"? Basically, because it isn't rushed and goes through the process of all the stressful things that you have to pass through before you get on a flight and even includes the process of arriving back at Birmingham International. Believe it or not, you don't need to have autism to find that you feel extremely stressed and anxious and confused at an airport. It would be helpful if all airports around the world recorded videos similar to this video for autistic passengers for ALL PASSENGERS. Quite frankly, unless you travel regularly, any type of travel (not necessarily by air) can be very stressful and every airport is different rather than the same. Quelle surprise!

Well actually, do you think you might be autistic yourself? Most people would not find it that strsssful or confusing. I’ve been to many airports. The only one I found stressful was Frankfurt and that was due to a short transfer time Most people will simply ask for help and directions but autistic people are paralysed with shyness and really find it difficult to interact with people. But I agree the video is very useful. You will find many KZbinrs actually do videos of airports explaining the checking in and out process. You can also go online and check the maps . My biggest tip would be that Any stress is removed by arriving 3 hours before departure . I always do this I really don’t mind sitting at the airports I actually enjoy it. I get myself a lounge pass , or if not just watch the planes go by. If it isn’t possible to arrive 3 hours before always arrive at least 2 hours before last check in as you never know how long the security check in lines will be ! I cannot tell you how many times this has saved me from missing my flight or being stressed.

I have autism and this video is really helpful to me and especially because I’ll be going to Istanbul in July and returning in September so I’ll rewatch this video when I get to this airport in 1/2 months time 6:53 I don’t really mind the lighting and smells and people in the tax & duty-free shopping area so I’ll just walk straight through to the departure lounge

Could I opt to be searched by a female if needed? As I've seen videos of how some of them frisk you. I'd much rather strip off, rather than being felt up by a male. As I'm going away soon, I'm going to make sure all clothes I wear contain zero metal, so doubtful I'd get searched, it's just incase I forget something due to being overwhelmed with stuff.

I recently went through a journey where OCS and Emirates both let me down as disabled traveller in the airport I couldn’t find the ocs desk so I went to the que at Emirates walking with a stick I was forced to stand and que no emirates staff or OCS staff offered help t So I had to struggle with my suitcase alone I definitely won’t travel through Birmingham airport again after this experience which sent my Anxiety through the roof hence the airline refused me for flight with no support even though I had booked Asistance with Emirates which I never got I was abandoned and told I cannot fly today with no help. Now a week later I have Covid which I believe I got from the airport due to nobody keeping and social distance.

Birmingham Airport isn't to blame but the trend where every airport now is designed for you to be forced through duty free. Shame we all can't by pass through the special door, those of us who have no care in buying duty free. It's like an assault course.
