The Hurricane was apparently found in a state of remarkably good preservation considering it had spent 50 years under water. A new replacement engine was sourced locally from somebody who had an underground cave storage unit used to hold spare Merlin engines during the war.

Yeah I saw the pictures from when they lifted it, a decent basis to start from. I'm pleased they had people with the will and skills to do the work too. Amazing that there are still good engines lurking around here and there too! A pity nobody has found a cache of good Napier Sabres for the two Typhoon projects though.

When post-WW11, a Typhoon was shipped to the USA for evaluation and later display purposes it was delivered with a complete spare engine. That plane eventually returned to to the UK.......but what happened to that spare motor???

Probably dumped. There was a sectioned out Sabre at Hendon next to it when I went a few times before the typhoon went to Canada and back but probably not that one
