You mentioned the case when "developers are helping QAs to finish PBIs at the end of the Sprint", but as you probably know there is no such role as "QA" in Scrum, as the developers need to provide the quality according to the Definition of done and all discussions during Sprint Planning. Overall, this video is a great explanation for those who are often asks the question regarding the daily activities of a Scrum Master.
@ScrumMastered

"Developers" in Scrum means developers of the product. Within this group we will have people with different expertise such as software engineering, QA, writing, etc.

Hi I want to know after Retrospective meeting whatever findings our cherish and next action item, how best way to implement and how we inform upper management for that ask of team. Is there any specific recommendations process or other items please suggest it. Thanks for your wonderful videos and providing insight knowledge of real world working aspects!!
@ScrumMastered
@ScrumMastered Жыл бұрын
I think it's important to find a way that will work for the team. Some teams I worked with would add those items to their Sprint Backlog, some would just have a to-do list in Confluence or on Slack. Some just keep the action items in the Miro board we used for the retro. In terms of "how we inform upper management for that ask of team" - why do you need to inform them? If the team doesn't want to share what was discussed in the retrospective, you shouldn't force it. But if there is something the team needs from management to help them - yes, you should definitely bring it up.

Very helpful insights! A couple things 1) Doesn’t this indicate the developers don’t have a good enough definition of “done”? 2) Shouldn’t there always be an openly available sprint backlog? 3) Why was the client permitted to make product change requests directly to the developers rather than going through the Product Owner from the start?
@ScrumMastered
@ScrumMastered Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the questions. 1) I assume you're talking about Monday where the team was not focusing on QA. I don't believe that it indicates a problem with the DoD but rather our natural tendency to try to stay busy and optimize our time for efficiency instead of focusing on getting to Done. 2) Yes, Sprint Backlog should be visible and available for everyone who'd like to check in with it. It may be hard to read it though, if you are not checking in with it every day. 3) Unfortunately, that's a normal state of things in many organizations. You can't catch every person who believes they can ask a specific developer for something. So you need to work with the whole team to make sure they know how to reply to those requests if they come their way behind the PO's back. That happens quite often, actually, even when there is a proper process in place.

How many teams do you Scrum Master for? Any tips for when you're coaching 3 teams as SM and as a result of staff alignments and timing you have to do all 3 teams retros and reviews together? I still find a way to get value but it's messy lol. 😊
@ScrumMastered
@ScrumMastered 9 ай бұрын
Right now I work part time with one team, more as an external coach rather than a full time Scrum Master, because I do other work outside of this. No, you don't want to do all retrospectives together with the three teams, that's fo sure. Maybe if they work on the same product, you can have a combined retrospective from time to time. As for reviews - it depends. If your teams again work on the same product, then they definitely should have a single review for everyone. Saves times to your stakeholders and also creates alignment between the teams.

Hi Daria! :) A question just to clarify my confusion. In ScrumGuide or in exams it is sad that: New sprint starts immediately after previous sprint finish. You mentioned that Sprint 7 was finished on Tuesday, and started new Sprint 8 on Wednesday. Isn't that a problem? Do you close the sprint on Wednesday the last minute and start planning from the first hours of work the next day? Or if not, what do you do with the idle hours of work between one day and another?
@ScrumMastered
@ScrumMastered Жыл бұрын
You are correct - New sprint starts immediately after previous sprint finish. But it doesn't make sense to take it literally. When we finish the sprint on Tuesday it happens towards the end of the day, so the team goes home afterwards. And then we start the next sprint Tuesday first thing in the morning. I mean we can say that the sprint ended at 11:59 pm on Tue and started at 0:00 on Wed, it's just that no one was working at that time :) Some teams I work with will have the Sprint open until the Sprint Planning, but for me it's just a technicality. Plus, you don't want to encourage overtime work to try to cram in that last thing into this Sprint. Especially, after the Sprint Review was done already.
