Hey emmie I am not sure if you will actually see this but i wanted to say it anyway I’m in my senior year in highschool and for the entirety of my life i thought i would get into a stem major, and thats what everyone thought too looking at my grades. But for some reason 3 months before university applications started I became very unsure of what i wanted and who i was. While i was on my journey of exploring myself and what interests me i came across your channel, and you along many other book youtubers encouraged me to apply for an English major which really was unexpected to those around me as well as myself, i was shocked. I finalized my application recently and i ended up applying for an Enlglish Linguistics major, hopefully I’ll be able to continue into translation field too. I do wonder if i made the wrong decision of going into something entirely different than what i expected myself to get into, but right now while i was watching your video, it was a kind of a reassurace. I know it wouldnt be easy but hopefully I’ll be able to fall in love with it just like you are. Thank you so much emmie, you did change my life, and I’m sure many others as well ❤

I wish I had gotten to Emma's channel sooner. I did end up majoring in STEM and I hate it. I realized that perhaps I am better suited to linguistics of some form a little too late because I am already in my fourth year of this uni course. I am determined to find a work around through maybe a research career in academia until I finally get a career in the literary field because life is too short to be unhappy while fulfilling other people's expectations. So happy for you that you found yourself sooner. Wishing you the absolute best!!

I saw a couple of comments from people saying Emma’s videos are inspiring them to study literature in university. I would like to say this channel is inspiring me to study or at least explore and enjoy literature in retirement! I was a STEM career person, but am now interested in literature and history as an older adult. I am loving the Game of Tomes reads, although I’m severely behind on Brothers Karamazov as well.

I'm with you concerning Romeo+Juliet, that movie is also one of my favourites! You could make videos where you analyse certain books more in depths, and walk us through the content of your school papers for example, talking about motifs, themes, analysing the prose via some quotes... Personally, I would find that really interesting. Your videos take me back to my literature studying days and I really enjoy that about them. When are we going to meet the new cat ???

Yay for a new vlog! This is nice after graduating college Monday and being absolutely wiped out with a wedding I was in the day before and then immediately moving out and then the 6-hour drive home yesterday. Much appreciated vibes with the intro. I wonder if you'll get any people interested in the stroller expecting a baby and then get a bit bewildered upon discovering a cat where the baby should lie? Anyway, it's adorable for both Calcifer and possibly for miss wobbles (not that that's the name since you haven't shared the new cat's actual name).

Emma, I'm wondering... Since you love snow, and ice, and winter, have you ever played "Syberia"? It's an old (well, first two parts), but immensely beautiful computer game, which always makes me cry. It's a quest type of game, where American lawyer Kate Walker visits Europe only to sign some papers and soon finds herself in a journey on a mechanical train with an unknown destination. I strongly recommend you try it, if you'll have a chance. Wish you and your beloved ones all the best ❤️

It's funny that you talked about studying Romeo and Juliet in Year 10, and Hamlet in Year 12. They're same years that my high school, all the way over in Melbourne, Australia had me studying them. We also studied The Merchant of Venice in Year 8, A Midsummer Night's Dream in Year 9, and Macbeth in Year 11. For whatever reason they were a bit obsessed with Shakespeare in the late 90s-early 2000s. I enjoyed A Midsummer Night's Dream and Romeo and Juliet at the time, and have since enjoyed a novelisation of Macbeth, the others not so much. I was wondering, is Eevee named after the Pokémon? I was recently enemy #1 of the Yarra Plenty Regional Library system, here in Melbourne because my library has the same 'no late fees' policy as yours does and a few days before Christmas I realised they wanted to charge me for the two books I'd had out since October (I honestly don't think two months overdue is long enough to call the book 'lost', but anyway I digress). Fortunately, I wasn't at the $200 level of overdue, only $42.50 to replace the two books I 'lost'. I did the same as you, immediately took them down to the return chute (although I didn't clog mine with my pile because I only had two) and then went inside to see what new treasures I might find, spent about five minutes browsing (while also allowing the computer system time to recognise the missing books were returned and unblock my account) and then went to the self-service computer (my library is all about mechanisation and human-contact free visits, if that's what the patrons want) to check out my new finds. I'll do my best to not allow that to happen again, but like you I can't guarantee it, but fortunately, as long as I don't actually lose, or irreparably destroy, a book the fine is removed pretty much immediately and the account returned to active status.

I work in a small town library. When people are a few days late, I call them and ask if they want me to renew their loans. If we speak, I’ll renew it until someone reserves it. The two time renewal max can be bypassed manually by an employee and honestly, I get it. Sometimes we just need more time. We have had some patrons which we asked if they could just come in and show us they still had their volume in good condition. We just want to make sure our books are being well taken cared of 😅 We recently had a day where anyone who came or called we would get rid of their debt, asking them if they had books they had kept out of shame they could just bring back free of charge…. All the students with projects 😂😂 They felt guilty, but really we just wanted the books back. Because ultimately we want the books and have no hard feelings 😊

Ever since I first encountered the spellbinding "Playing Shakespeare" series, artfully presented by the brilliant John Barton and featuring the extraordinary talents of Patrick Stewart, Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, David Suchet, and Ben Kingsley, etc I have loved Shakespeare. It was during my time at secondary school (year 8) that this transformative experience unfolded when it was introduced to me by my teacher, forever altering my perception of the Bard's works. Prior to that day, Shakespeare had failed to ignite a spark within me.

I firmly believe that the true enjoyment of Shakespeare's works necessitates the presence of a mentor, teacher, guide or someone who can ignite adoration and passion within us. Reflecting upon my own journey, had I been deprived of the inspiring teacher who kindled my love for the Bard's creations, I am certain that my current fervour and ardour would not burn as brightly.

@@abbysands9510 i am glad that you have a good reading experience journey. when i met shakespeare for the first time i was in the secondary school. since as a astudent i was known as a book nerd and classics enthusiast my teacher recommended me Macbeth from Shakespeare even though my native language isn't english. at that times i tried to read the translated version to my language too but tbh i hated it so bad i didn't try to read his work for 10 years hahahahhah now since i am better at english and i learned more and more about history about his work i am trying to read and evaluate his works from a different perspective. If this is recent, I think you are 2 weeks behind Rochester NY flower-wise. I think used books stores are so much more interesting than new book stores. More variety; not 25 copies of the same book filling shelves. I see that you pulled out Anne Rice and not any of the books you mentioned. LOL. I also saw Orhan Pamuk's Snow (I am currently reading My Name Is Red and would recommend that one) and several books from the Wheel of Time Series (only 14 books and 6000+ pages, so don't start that series until you have lots of time). Good news and bad news. Good news is that the religious / philosophical debate continues for the whole book. Bad news... it's Dostoevsky, so it never gets less dense.

How does your cat Calcify defy the instinctual fear towards your dog Eevee? The intricate interplay between cats and dogs has forever embodied a dichotomy of affection and animosity. If vampires stand as adversaries to werewolves, then dogs may be deemed foes to the feline kind, and yet here exists your cat and dog, defying all odds, united as one, unburdened by trepidation and enraptured by camaraderie.

And by the end you'll notice there are some conversation that the narrator have, that is so out of character of her. That I have to bump the rating down to 3 stars . dear emma, I want to start by saying that this comment is not intended to be hateful in any way. I genuinely appreciate your content and enjoy watching your vlogs. However, I would like to suggest that you consider removing any parts of your vlogs that are not directly related to your personal experiences. While I understand that nature shots can be visually appealing, there are other channels dedicated specifically to capturing nature in a more compelling manner. The reason I watch your videos is because I am genuinely interested in you as a person, and I want to see what's been going on in your life. Unfortunately, I find that the inclusion of nature shots tends to dilute the overall impact of your vlogs and often discourages me from watching the entire video. Thank you for considering my feedback. love you emma xxx

This is such a weird comment, consider nature is such an important aspect to Emma. That is just like telling her to take a away a big part of herself.

@@Emmareads i was just suggesting her to not make 90% of the vlog unengaging nature shots since that's really sabotaging the amount of views she could be getting. i really want more people to know about her, and really want her to prosper more on this impossible platform that is youtube. but unfortunately, the algorithm doesnt really favor 50 minute vlogs that are basically badly directed nature documentaries. people would much rather watch a 15-30 minute vlog or even a 50 minute one, but one where it actually feels like a vlog and not a collection of shaky nature shots

@aishaaltaf8259 I don't think a manufactured version of her life, without showing her significant relationship and connection to nature, is what emma is interested in. I for one love the scenes of nature and so do many of her audience members. She clearly wants to show that in her videos and it shouldn't be up to anyone what she deems as important.

@@kathy4873 gotchu, but in my opinion this is just a way of ensuring she forever remains confined to a niche and small audience, which, if she doesnt have a problem with, doesnt have to be changed. i was just trying to provide my feedback on the behalf of the part of her audience that agrees with me, however much small or big. and thats really what the comment section is for.

I took a translation seminar during my MFA with Edie Grossman, who translated Captain of the Sleepers (and sooo many other novels), and it was so rad to hear her stories about both the works she translated and their authors. Also, I love that cover for Hour of the Star (🐧🩵). Thank you for continuing to give engaging reflections and excellent recommendations!
