I love how you include your children when you can. Our daughter didn't enjoy gardening and canning growing up and fought against it when we tried to teach her. She is a grandma now and guess who is teaching gardening and canning to her daughters-in-law and grand children! I guess a few things stuck with her. Lol!

I've been canning my whole life. I'm 62 years old now. My daughter didn't want to learn either. Now my son's girlfriend asked me to show her how to can. My son helped us. We canned 40 quarts of peaches in one day!

@@countrylifeny Sounds like your son may have found himself a winner! Most youngsters don't want to be bothered learning canning or any of the old time ways for that matter. It's also a great way for you to bond with the young woman that may one day be your daughter-in-law. My wife and my mom canned thousands of jars together until mom's health ended it. My wife said it wasn't as much fun afterwards. Enjoy your time with them and bless you all!

Here we go: Toast a slice of whole grain bread, shmear on either cream cheese or original laughing cow, top with tomato jam, sprinkle on some chopped green onion and cracked pepper. It's delicious!

Thank you for your tireless dedication to us, your children and family! I would love your apple butter recipe. My mother never preserves anything, so now at age 62, I’m learning to do a lot! I grew up with store bought Ma Browns Apple butter-but would love to learn how to make it myself. Blessings to you and your family.

This week I canned19 ligers of peaches, 12 jars of peach syrup,6 - 500 ml garlic, 6 litres salsa, 13 750 ml salsa, 12 500 ml salsa,2 250 ml salsa, 4 lire’s tomatoes and 50. # tomatoes into tomato sauce. I’m working on that now. I have 13 - 500ml in the canner and some sauce yet to be processed. Thanks for the challenge!

I love how you involve your sweet kids!!! This is something I did with my Mom when I was a kid and I look back fondly on those times! Mom's 87 and in failing health so I treasure those memories. We're sent over from Living Traditions Homestead.

You certainly are one busy lady! Enjoy your videos and the fact your children are all learning this activity. Kudos for home schooling!! I don't understand why our schools are allowed to teach some of the gargage. Sad!! Removing God from things has hurt our country very badly. God bless!! I only do small batch canning with mostly things I'm gifted. My back won't allow me to be on my feet for long periods. I was able to get 3 1/2 pints of peach salsa yesterday before I thought my back would break!! I'm amazed how it adds up. I have 10 or 12 cases alfeady!!! Thanks for sharing!!

I’m so glad to see you making tomato jam! I love it and make it every year, sometimes with bacon. It’s great with homemade rustic bread and a good aged cheese (or with your charcuterie)

There's alot of countries in this world that actually do this every tomato harvest(s). . I have, . . As an American, I thought it was only good in savory dishes. . .lasagna, spaghetti, ziti. Poppacoli, ect. . .or Mexican dishes. . .almost any kind of salsa you can find. . .(Pico de Gallo- which I absolutely love!!!). . Oh there's alot of Asian, African, Indian, Middle Eastern, Arctic dishes that all use it for savory dishes. . . Until I came across an Asian recipe for tomatoe jam. . I made it, it blew my mind and the minds of my 4 children n my nephew. . Oh my goodnesd!!! You do it right, it's amazing!!!!

Yes! Totally agree with resting in winter! It's why I love winter! All the work is done and we can just focus on homeschool and snuggles by the fire!🥰

Tomato Jam is very common in Portugal (my home country). We don't use pectin in our jams but I'm guessing you can still use it. Here is a simple recipe: 1Kg of tomato 1/2 Kg sugar 1 stick of cinnamon 2 cloves optional orange peal Cook everything together until desired consistency (I would blend the tomatoes before cooking like you did) then remove the cinnamon, cloves and orange peal and preserve.

Our family calls tomato jam, chili sauce. We use it with black eyed peas, cabbage, pintos etc. The kitchen always smelled so good while this war simmering! Glad I found your channel! ❤

I love that he was honest. I agreed when I heard you added an equal amount of clove to the other spices I was wondering if it would be overpowering. I usually use 1/4 to 1/2 at most the amount of clove to other spice. You are such a GREAT momma and teacher. Letting your children actually do it themselves without "helping" or taking over is building so much confidence in them and their skills. Awesome job, Momma!!!

Thank you so much for your tip on adding vinegar while canning with hard water. I'm new to canning and was shocked when I ended up with dusty jars. I figured it was my hard water, but I wasn't sure what I could do. Love your videos!!

I grew up making tomato jam. It’s a staple in a Portuguese home. We slow cook the tomatoes down most of the day, adding VERY little sugar or honey. The second half of cooking time, we add 1 or 2 cinnamon sticks and the peel of a lemon. Bring to a quick boil at the very end before canning. No pectin ever. Cooked down till it is really thick on it’s own. I still make it this way. Delish!

I always love to see what you're preserving. This week I dried chives. I also dried a bunch of other herbs and put them in glass jars to give them to my SIL when we visit next week. I canned green beans and salsa, and harvested all my cabbages, wrapped them in plastic and stuck them in the crisper in our garage refrigerator. They will keep for months that way. I also roasted a bunch of cherry tomatoes and froze them on olive oil.

So inspired to finish Canning up summer. Hannah (9) grew our tomatoes and a neighbor brought us so much corn to can. We made our first batch of corncob jelly with the leftover cobs. Every bit counts !

You are not lazy; you are a beautiful wife, mom, daughter, and friend. When you have to switch things up that is understandable, not everything can get done with your schedule. Thanks for showing all of us how to preserve lots of food. I am too elderly and homebound with poor poor health to do much anymore, but I sure do love watching you young moms who love Almighty God and family work. I really enjoyed this video today. I started canning last year and I didn't realize you didn't have to add sugar or salt! I made apple sauce with ball canning recipe, but it was a bit sweeter than I like. So I'm glad to know I don't have to add the sugar... or at least not all of the sugar that the recipe calls for!

in the old days my mom used to make tomatoe soup cake she would make it like the tomatoe jam but you put the flour and stuff with most of the same spices soooo good so im sure i would love the jam

I just found you. I wish I had found you a few weeks ago! But you have motivated me to preserve something every day for the next 30 days. I won't be able to do the pantry challenge this year as I had a tough year with my only 2nd year gardening. But starting next month I will be setting a budget for groceries and I will spend the next year getting ready for the 2023 challenge!!

Ooo thanks for the tomato jam reminder!! I had a breakfast sandwich recently with it and it was amazing. Biscuit, egg, sausage and I don't remember if anything else was on it but it's making my mouth water. And thanks for the pampona's pectin link! I've been loving azure at your recommendation and just tried that pectin (and jam making) this year so it felt too expensive to use often with how small the boxes are! That's much more doable. :) And also loving the pickling idea for small batches. I usually do lacto-fermenting but could do mixes like that too. What a great video, as always. 🙏 Thank you for your knowledge!!

I'm definitely getting tired, but this is a really rewarding challenge. This week I canned tomatoes, pickled peppers, fig jam, made 3, 3lb cheeses, and froze lots of pesto.

You amaze me! I've learned so much from you. I can't fathom how you do all of the things you do with so many children but I absolutely love you guys for doing it! My girls were all so far apart in age, it seemed to them that they were ONLY's. 😂 Yet I still wasn't able to have the patience to teach them basic skills like you teach your kids. I'd always wanted a large family and to live like you do but, like so many other 80's moms, I thought I needed to work all the time to give my children name brand crap. Ugh. I wish I could change that now! NONE of those "material" things I worked so hard for mattered. They only helped to teach my girls the ways of "consumerism". Madonna's song " Material girl" was real. It makes me ill when I hear it now! But anyway, not sure if anyone will even see this message but just in case.... the absolute BEST thing you can do for your children is to spend TIME with them... and TEACH them the little things, like what a maple tree looks like etc... Ok, done ranting but you guys are my heros! I know it's not as easy as you make it look and I think you're very honest too! There's just no time to show the hardships and besides, the world needs the inspiration that your videos give! We need to know that we CAN do at least part of what you do. Thanks for giving us the inspiration and for sharing the love that your family has for each other. God Bless!

somewhere along my many moves, I lost my moms ancient tomatoe grinder - but now I am using an electric juicer. once the juice is on the boil, I put the apples through it a couple more times and there is a fine sauce, perfect for apple butter, but I make it a fine apple sauce. then I put about 12 cups of right away juice out of the scraps left over. Its fairly faster, lots of clean up as you go. But that tomatoe grinder is missed.

I'm always so grateful for your videos! I can't consume a lot of media, because it leaves me feeling drained, without the energy I need to keep my family cared for, much less our small homestead (just me? I don't think so 😂). Your videos always build my energy, leaving me ready to not only maintain things, but to build my skill set, to thrive! Plus, my kids love watching with me, and I love having something unequivocally good for them to watch. 💜

I leave the tray that goes in the bottom on the canner for setting the canning jars on in the bottom of the canner to keep the apples from scorching.🤗

Just had time to check your preserving as recommended by Living Traditions. I love it and have been canning and preserving this whole month, everyday. I love tomato Jam! I like to make my tomato jam with 5 spice. I use it on eggs, pizza crust instead of sauce and topped with chicken and cheese. It's also great mixed with some sour cream, chopped cucumbers, spinach and a dry ranch mix and used as a dip for veggies, bread sticks and chips.

please don't ever edit out those moments with your kids, even when they are fussy! you give example to what good parenting is. When I think about my mom's reaction to a fussy baby... it's one of irritation which sends the opposite message we want to send to our kids. By the time I became a parent I had a lot of "baggage" to sort through and all too often her responses were my responses. It's very obvious your kids understand at their very core that they are valued, and respected. Thank you for sharing your life so openly. I absolutely LOVE that your husband was honest!!! Yet another great example of a healthy relationship. No games, no pretense. A goal you are working toward together and you can't get there without his feedback.... because you can't understand what the heck he likes about it! 😆😉 seriously though... if I get the opportunity to try some tomato jam... I'm gonna have to try it. I remember liking peanut butter and ketchup sandwiches when I was a kid.

Such alot done this week! I am working on things too. Once again the girls are such a big help and the boys enjoyed using the apple slicer with their dad as well! We will all be so happy to have all this beautiful produce on our shelves this winter! Thanks for sharing another week with us!

When making applesauce I use multiple varieties of apples and add some sweet pears when making apple sauce. I use no sugar that way. When I dehydrate my apples they always snap. I may have to do it a bit longer but I feel as if they also last longer that way too.

Spiced tomato jam is excellent. I tried it with peanut butter and the tastes really complement each other.

I never water bathe quarts and pints together.... I am so happy to see this!!!! (Kinda a rookie in canning) but have done it for years.... just not very much every year.... ;)
