It's finally time to boil sap and we are so excited! This weekend we boiled down approximately 1000L of sap and ended up with 23 finished litres of syrup. Our storage system for sap worked out well even with a few minor hiccups along the way. We were very happy with how efficient the new sap evaporator was and are already planning next year's maple syrup season!
We learned a lot of new things this year and overall had an awesome season!
We hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching!

You two did an amazing job. So much work, but you two working together made it possible. I love how the two dobies go off together and hang out together. I learned a lot by watching you both. Be proud when you put these jars on your pantry shelves. You both worked so hard to make it happen. Hug those dobies and God bless.

I sure miss the flavor a fresh maple syrup. You folks are lucky you get to make your own syrup I know it's a lot of hard work but it's worth it in the end.. I wish I still lived on the farm and we were able to do this. Thank you so much for sharing

Strange season, started early February, stopped, then restarted. Most of the sap came in the early part and the syrup was light brown and very sweet. Next year we might do the tubing and a new evaporator pan. Nice cabin you guys have, my wife loves it.

@living.different Жыл бұрын
@@waltmoore3095 we debated tubing too! We’re glad we didn’t do it though , it would have been ripped apart and lost from the storm we had last year! If you do put it up, let us know how you like it 😀 glad you’re enjoying the content

What we do for our sap storage, our barrels are enclosed in a large box packed in snow , shavings around valves. Doesn’t freeze,stays cool.

Great job! I would just add a warmer on top of the large pan and have this drip into. You’re killing the boil every time you add the cold sap. 👍

You should really try useing a pre warmer with a valve on the bottom. This allows you to put cold sap in and trickle it into your main pan and it wont kill the boil when you get things right. It really speeds things up.
@living.different
@living.different Жыл бұрын
Yes we did mention that at the end , that we should have another one on to warm so it doesn’t kill the boil! Learning as we go each season 🍁

@@living.different I have used one of those 2gal disposable water jugs with a spigot before. You just cant keep it very close to the fire. Just a trickle into one corner dosnt kill the boil.

This should help people understand why pure syrup is so expensive. This is one of those things I would personally never do, credit to you both for being so dedicated to making your own syrup. Of course your breaky looked amazing, hard to get much more Canadian haha. Making syrup, cooking bacon on the fire with snow still on the ground and falling.. #keepingitreal

Lower your sap level down to 1 to 2 inches deep in your pan and add to that. Takes a lot less wood to keep a boil going
@living.different
@living.different 3 ай бұрын
That level of sap In the pan would be quite difficult to maintain without it burning 🍁

Good job guys! I am curious how much firewood did it take to boil the sap down, a face cord or less? or more roughly? Propane would be expensive theses days.
@living.different

120 liters of sap boils down to just end up with a 750 ml bottle of syrup? That's a lotta work.

It’s 40:1. So 40 litres of sap equals 1 litre of syrup

The Ice in your pails is really just a poor man's RO. There is no sugar in the Ice. If you have a refractometer for sap and melt the ice you will see that there is no sugar in the ice. Saves a lot go boiling time.

We’ve taken a whole bucket of sap right off the tree and put it directly in the freezer and it has frozen solid
