Try putting a scrap of computer paper underneath your fabric or a bit of interfacing or bondaweb. Anything to give your feed dogs, needle and foot more grip. Also change your needle, a touch of oil. I always do that, rethread and also wind a new bobbin. It sounds a hassle but sometimes it works. I’ve made loads of scrunchies in my time, they were always lovely but never my favourite. My current machine is Phaff Jeans. Have had it for about 20 years. Love it, my friendly work horse.

With stretchy fabric a zigzag stitch works better most times!

Did you think about getting your old machine serviced? Often these older machines a far better work horses then new ones. I say that owning g the singer you originally looked at😅
