Fun fact: My father invented the Off Road show. Yep. 1983, the local council invited our four wheel drive (FWD) club to set up a static display in one of the local parks because FWDing was just starting to become popular as a recreation. A local car dealer, who sold FWDs, was driving by and saw the club banner and said "hey, I've got a bit of land nearby. Come on and put together a bit of a show." So, he and his mates built a little bit of a test track with a mud hole in it and put up some displays. The dealer loved it and said, "Can you do it again, but I'd like my cars to be running around the test track" So, the club did, putting on a second Field Day BUT old mate dealer had spoken to all the other local dealers, who asked if they could put their vehicles onto the test track, FWD accessory places, like TJM and ARB (and, I'm talking Tony, the head dude from ARB0, rang up and asked how they got into the action. Well, this day went completely berserk, it was so popular, most of the FWD community and just people who owned fwds in South East Queensland & Nodthern NSW came, the local stations sent their helicopters out with news reporters to cover the event, a local touring car legend made an appearance and the Police quietly asked if they could get a heads up if we were going to cause so much traffic chaos again..... 1984 rolls around and the family are taking calls at the house, getting questions about the date of that year's show. They were disappointed to find out that we weren't able to host it - not as such a massive undertaking - so they set about finding promotion companies to run the show. On the proviso that Dad was in charge of designing and building the test track. (Which Dad, and eventually I, did for many shows around the country for years to come.)

He was also a part of the team to bring driver training to the masses and adapted it from the Australian Army. While they were doing that, the guy responsible for it all, the driving force (pardon the pun) behind it, would ring up Dad at work and say "Neil, I've got this great idea for [xyz], make sure Peter's at home and we'll show you...." (he lived literally around the corner) Dad would get home and Ivan would either return in his FJ40 or we'd use ours, but Ivan would show me (I would've been 10 or 11) and then he'd talk it through with Dad while I was showing them. Sometimes I'd throw in an idea or two but, after last of it was buttoned down, Ivan got invited to the USA and showed some Americans what we'd been doing, and it spread around the world like that.
