What I think is the saddest part of Jack pleading with Ethan is he doesn't say "safe my family" he says "free my family" he knows Marguerite already died, the only thing left for her is her conscience to be freed, Lucas is too far gone to be saved and Jack doesn't know that Lucas is being messed up by choice, and Zoe just wants to be free.
@CDNBreadDogs2 жыл бұрын
Also: I think this scene takes place in some kind of hive mind that the souls of those currently infected with the mold live, so this scene foreshadows so many things 1. Jack's still alive 2. Ethan has been infected with the mold 3. Lucas isn't here bc he's mentally free of the mold And also it has me wondering WHEN the characters can actually get here, like when they fall asleep is this what they dream of? If so that would mean that even for those 3 years Zoe still had access to her real mother and father when she went to sleep. However that prob should've given away to them that Lucas was cured

The reason why Ethan saw the Bakers in a dream like vision, is that every mold infected person has its personality trapped in a giant storage system (as explained in the RE 8 Village game) so every moldy person 's consciousness is connected. Now it's all "I don't wanna ruin the end but... here's the list of everyone who dies, when, how at each episode and the minute it happens". The infection and the mind control are two different things but this isn't explained well. The reason Zoe is not controlled by Evie is because Evie wants to be the only daughter. Zoe isn't a part of her ideal family unit. She's trying to replace Zoe. As we see in Daughters, everyone is controlled the moment they are infected except for Zoe. Evie never wanted to control her and could have done at any point. The reason the email is sent is because Evie realised Ethan was Mias husband, this made him the best candidate for her Father and it was also why Jack wanted you dead. He even mentioned how you would replace him before the chainsaw fight.
@BoulderPunch3 жыл бұрын
Does Evie want to be the only daughter? They did kidnap several women as appeared on those lists you can find in the house, but maybe that was for a mother? I wish the game did a better job of explaining it. The issue I have with the email is why now after 3 years? Why not sooner?
@ub3rfr3nzy943 жыл бұрын
@@BoulderPunch Evie sent Mias footage that she filmed on the laptop in the email. That means at some point she found the laptop containing it. In the video Mia calls ethan her husband. I imagine Mia never revealed this to Evie. My guess is that Evie didn't find out about Ethan via reading Mias mind because either 1. She had amnesia, only remembering events after being reminded of them or 2. Evie didn't have full control over Mia like she did with the bakers. Evie's control was down to her own choice. She wanted her mother to be independant and only took control when she wanted her to do something for her. Personally, I think Mia had forgotten about Ethan until he showed up. How did Evie find the laptop inside the ship when she was a wheelchair bound old lady? Well, that old lady managed to move around quite a bit without help. I guess we can only assume that she was able to turn into mold and move around that way. In the final fight we see Evie melt and turn into sludge like the bakers and the thing that attacks in the swamp before you get to the ship deliberately took Ethan. I'm pretty sure that whatever that was in the swamp, it was Evie or in the very least was under her control as we find Evie as a hallucination in the room with Ethan at the end of the ship section. As for how she was able to power the laptop? There is still power on the ship (for some reason) as we turned the elavator back on and there are numberous lights and even a puzzle that are all still functioning. It's all explainable, but there was clearly nowhere to actually tell us how it happened and they probably just assumed we wouldn't notice or care. Evie had people kidnapped, but ultimately just turned them into molded and merged into her hivemind consciousness. So for whatever reason, she had two ideas of a family, one was melding people with her and the other was a traditional family with two parents and a child. Also the people they kidnapped were related to neither the bakers nor mia and all would have resisted her efforts, which is probably why they were all killed or converted. When Evie realised Ethan wasn't having it she tried to kill him too. The real issue I have with the plot is why Evie didn't just calcify Ethan instantly at the start of the game. The Daughters DLC revealed that the mold infection acts instantly and she gains immediate control. This leads to some plot holes. Originally I was under the impression the infection was gradual and that would have made a lot more sense for the plot but that DLC really makes things hard to explain. I don't think they realised how that story would affect the plot when they wrote it.
@ub3rfr3nzy943 жыл бұрын
@@BoulderPunch TL;DR is that Evie found the latop, discovered Ethan was Mias husband and wanted a real family, she lured him to the bakers home and when Ethan tried to help Mia escape with him Eveline turned on him. Zoe was not controlled because Eveline didn't care about her. When Mia woke up Eveline made Mia her mother again, which in her mind made Jack and Marguerite her grandparents. That's why the room with Marguerite's medical notes are in "Grandmas room" and the name itself was a red herring. Personally, I think the DLCs create a lot of plot issues. I'd like them to get retconned, but most likely they will just be ignored and we'll be expected to go along with it.

One odd thing I’m interested in is that Ethan‘s and Zoe‘s mental state was not really affected by Eveline or the mold? You could make the argument that if Ethan genuinely thought she was being held against her will that rocking up to the kidnappers house with sirens blaring might just make them kill her. Or if he thinks she left of her own will (free to do so as an adult), as implied by her choosing to warn him not to come then it's probably not the best time to show up with sirens blaring and trigger happy cops if it turns out she'd maybe started a new secret family who don't know about him and has another child involved (SWAT teams have done shit like thrown a flashbang in a baby's crib when they got the wrong address so might not be the best to let them storm into an unknown situation where innocents could get hurt)

We barely know zoe, and more likely than not zoe was only helping us to get herself out. Mia is not only our wife but the sole purpose of why we went to the house in the first place. It feels like a real cop out to go through this entire thing to save mia, then to pick someone who we dont know anything about who dies not 5 minutes later lmao

The reason Jack was there in the "End of Zoe" DLC is because when you fight him the second time in the base game, you cut him in half. from there he regens into 2 separate things. the one you fight at the end of the base game in the 3rd jack fight is his lower half. :)

years later I’ve been attempting to get all the trophies and doing different runs and im at 80%. I finished RE8 like a week after the game came out and enjoyed it for the most part. I wish I could experience RE7 for the first time again though. While some moments can be cheesy or hell even comical at times this game is just pure dread and tense atmosphere and capcom did an excellent job with the level design. The enemies in 7 are nuts as well. Marguerite’s 2nd form to this day terrifies me. RE8 is a decent game but I definitely felt it took like two steps back from the game that 7 is. Hopefully in the future capcom never decides to “tone down the scary” again because mommy milkers definitely wasn’t cutting it.

I agree, gameplay wise something felt off, like a step back mechanically from what they really worked hard to make in the previous installments (personally there were a lot of elements I loved), but in terms of series progress (and plot/themes), it reminded me a lot of BioShock Infinite. You could tell they were more excited about the story, concepts, and characters more than the actual game (for better and worse). I gotta say though, from how it felt, not every part was designed to be "scary". RE7 was a game built on anticipation and dread, RE8 was a game built on feeling overwhelmed and heavy. Each area was specifically tailored to keep you on your toes, and hit Ethan and the audience where it hurt the most at times. Personally, I loved it more than 7. It was a story than I was much more enthralled in, and definitely emotionally hit me harder. It messed me up for a day. Overall it was a fantastic homage to not only the RE series, but horror as a genre.

I like both so loved both games. I prefer RE7 because the concept of Eveline as a villain is just so terrifying imo and I wish we had maybe an E-002 bioweapon show up in future games. But man RE8 is definitely the story that Ethan deserved after 7, it had me almost crying at the end, how many RE games did that to their audience before?

25:10 I never understood the controversy. It's your wife. Your life partner. Literally, the whole reason you came here in the first place, of course, I'm giving the serum to her, it's not even a question or debate. Doesn't make sense to hold anything against her if she's clearly influenced by the infection. It's such a nonargument. It makes sense to me that it just wouldn't even be a choice.
@karabartley3 жыл бұрын
That was my man's argument too lmao Ethan even says "who else was I gonna pick?" Zoe was great and all, but she did offer up one of the serums to kill Jack. If she really wanted it there are other ways to take a tyrant down. Her "quick thinking" was her ration and she said to use it up.
@InnerWorkingsofaGeek2 жыл бұрын
Everyone who has ever said they held the chainsaw event or her constant changing personalities against her in this scene just tells me that they weren't paying attention to the plot. At that point in the game, 100% of her antagonistic behavior was clearly and obviously caused by the infection... that you're holding the cure for. "I didn't give her the cure to the infection, because she hurt me with the symptoms of the infection." It makes no sense. If they wanted to make the choice feel real, Ethan needed to have reason to believe Mia was a willing participant in the experiments, while Zoe was an innocent victim. But, given that plot-wise picking Zoe isn't a canon choice anyway, they really should have just made it a cutscene.
@HetaClaude2 жыл бұрын
SO TRUE like it's just such a weird thought to have ethan forsake everything he'd gone through for mia alone just for some woman he met that day who decided to help him out. even then, he still managed to get help for zoe afterwards anyway.
@badidea60342 жыл бұрын
But the whole reason you could save your wife was because of Zoe... if it wasn't for Zoe Ethan would have no idea there was a serum or how to make it. After Zoe's help you managed to get the serum but Zoe can't even benefit from it. It's really weird if you didn't at least feel sad for her and like you betrayed, that kind of selfishness is kinda psychopathic tbh
@matchalatte28552 жыл бұрын
You might think it should have been an obvious choice, right? But you would be surprised that there was actually a good amount of people who chose to save Zoe the first time they played the game. Usually, they said they chose Zoe because of that part at the start of the game where Mia attacked Ethan. They said "why would I choose Mia? She tried to kill Ethan. She even chopped his hand off." Some said they disliked Mia for attacking Ethan. Some said it was because they said Zoe was helping Ethan the whole time. Some said it was because Mia was the reason why all these happened to Ethan (him going to The Bakers' house, her lying about her job). Which, of course, also means they either forgot or ignored the part where the game told and showed you very clearly that Mia was controlled by something (like her saying something crawled inside her, her skin color changing, and her telling something to get out of her). And correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember that it was revealed somewhere that Evie was the one who made Mia send Ethan the video that made him go to the Bakers.

I saved Mia on my playthrough, and I know that's the cannon ending, but I legit felt bad for Zoe. Like really felt bad IRL. In my opinion, the garage fight with Jack is the best Resident Evil boss fight. I know RE3 had choice making but it always came down to running away or staying to fight which didn’t need a menu to do, just simply make your choice, is what RE7 allows here. This fight had a great setup for the player to interact in this fight. If you go all out and shoot at Jack, you realize he’s not dead after relentlessly spending ammo. Or if you’re clever, you’ll try to enter the car, only to realize you don’t have the car key, to which Jack pulls you out and can start driving your car (a little BS but it’s completely fine in this fight). Then you deal with Jack doing donuts and you are probably amused if the sight while attacking him. OR you can get the keys, space yourself from Jack so he doesn’t pull you out of the car, and start ramming him with free control of the car. This fight has a great combination of both scripted events and player freedom, and just over has a unique premise and great horrifying and hilarious fight. Sadly, this amount of creativity dropped after you beat Jack in the chainsaw fight. Margurite was a huge let down, her house was boring, the fight was same generic RE bossfight except surprisingly worse. The Cabin fight with Jack was meh. And Evelyn was a scripted bullet sponge in a short hallway. This absence of creativity in free form bossfights shows in RE2make and RE3make, and even RE8.

For those of you who missed the Baker Incident Report in RE8, Mia's role as a bioterrorist was acknowledged, but BSAA kept it a secret in exchange for her collaboration after the incident. It seems she was giving them Intel in exchange for her being able to begin a new life with Ethan. Ethan *never* found out who Mia really was or her role in the events of RE7. Also, considering how RE8 sets up BSAA, my guess is they could've gotten some Intel from Mia regarding Bioweapons that they plan to use later.

Besides the Evil Dead influence, the game also seems to draw inspiration from the Texas Chain Saw Massacre series. You can't tell me the dinner scene from RE7 isn't at least somewhat inspired by the dinner scene from the 1974 original Texas Chain Saw Massacre. The chainsaw fight is also reminiscent of TCM2 where one of the main characters chainsaw duels Leatherface.

Id say the enemy variation wasn't really lacking, since the baker home wasn't a complex say like Being trapped in a Umbrella HQ where most of the BOW's are made. RE7 takes place on a estate in Louisiana with a family forced in to crude experiments to make "family" so it was pretty much right in spec for what it was.
@crimsonrayquaza46 Жыл бұрын
I mean sure that's the lore reason but I still think we could've had more enemy varieties Like maybe a Molded Dog chasing us on all fours making it hard to hit. Or heck maybe something a little bit silly like a Molded with Trinkets strapped onto it that alerts other enemies in the area to your location. That said programming is hard and the team clearly wanted this game to be well polished (which they succeeded in)
