There have been many versions of the 'hickey bar' around longer than my 58 years of life. Being a 3rd gen bridge builder I saw these things laying around since able to walk. There are simpler designs than this type. Some are sold commercially too.

He made a Bendix. I once made a lathe out of an old record player motor and used that to make small chess pieces for a small chess board I made in middle school. A bendix is indeed used all around the world. Among its uses are pipe-bending and for tying fencing to posts and many other things.

@@garymericano The motors in those things spin considerably faster. I used cut up pieces of coat hanger for the tools and sharpened them with a file. pieces of dowel with a small hole drilled in them so I could tap them onto the motor's spindle became the chess pieces. To finish shaping the pieces other than the pawns and the queens I used a hack saw blade and pocket knife. Black walnut and maple stains and a light coat of polyurethane spray and they didn't look half bad.

Можно это сделать всё гораздо проще! Берëшь пруток сантиметров 40 и две гайки. Одну варишь в торец, а другую с другого конца в нахлëст. И вуаля, ключ для загиба хомутов готов. Это тоже достойный вариант, но много заморочи в изготовлении😊

@@hardball_man первую гайку варите в торец прутка, чтобы отверстие гайки смотрело перпендикулярно прутка. Вторую гайку варите с другого конца но уже на тело прутка, так чтобы отверстие гайки смотрело вдоль прутка. И получается ключ для загиба хомутов с разных концов под разные задачи

This would be made even better if one of the hooks was pitched at a 45 degree angle but still maintained its alignment with the other so you could wrap the wire evenly! The welds were the best part. I have never seen such clean welding before!

@@flashgett9178 Приветствую!!! Такой способ можно реализовать, если, к примеру, сделать подходящих размеров матрицу и потом уже из готовых рамок/хомутов собирать каркас!!! В случае сбора каркаса, как это делается в ролике, через несколько хомутов ширина и высота самого каркаса начнёт уменьшаться...

I’d change the design a little bit. Eliminate the u-shape piece replacing it with a straight piece across then weld another straight piece across at the top of the bend in the u-shape then weld the long hand on the backside that eliminates cutting the tac weld pieces at the top. In doing it this way eliminates all this second operation work and you don’t have to waste time lining up the piece of rebar you want to bend on either side , just slap it in and bend your done.

Wait. He's only using the rebar on the sides to make the bends. It limits what size rebat he can actually bend. Just weld a piece of rebar to connect those two pieces. Then you have something you can use more sizes.

That's a cool homemade tool and all, but bending tools have been in existence for hundreds of years. Tools meant to Bend rebar specifically have been in use for well over a century.

I bend the wire with my hands. Gets tiring though so I just use vise grips. They make a sharper bend
