I know you can't drive the car around being a wholesale dealer. I was wondering if I fixed something and need to verify it can you drive it for a bit then to make sure the fix is good?

Not so fast. I like cars and really enjoyed going to the Auctions. When I retired I did get my wholesaler's dealer license. I sold a few cars to other dealers and there was no money in it. The way I did make some money is in buying cars for friends. I mainly specialized with Lexus Lease Returns and would make around $3000 on each car. One thing flying wheels didn't mention are the auction fees. On a $30,000 car the fee is around $350 and another $350 if you sell it at auction. Here in California as a wholesaler you can't transfer a car directly to a buyer so you have to go through a retail dealer and that dealer will want $300 or $400 to process the sale. The last time I consigned a car to a dealer he didn't pay the DMV fees and went bankrupt. I lost $$$$ and so did the other conginment sellers. Here in California a Retail Dealer only has to post a $50,.000 bond with the state so this can be eaten up with two or three sales or even one so be extra careful. As a wholesale dealer when it comes to collecting on the bond you're dead last.

I actually looked into it here in MN. Same requirements for wholesaling as retail car lot. So no advantage anyway. I drive part-time @ a wholesale auction house so am aware of the fee structure.

Question. If you have a broker buy your car say on copart for you is the title in there name ? Reason I ask bc about every state has a limit on how many u can sell. Thanks

In recent research I've noticed that NH is one of only 9 States that allows a wholesale license w/o a lot. It's such a hard thing to find out info. about as Google just pushes the Surety ads.

If you partner with a retail dealer, then you can sell to the public, through that retail dealer. You need to find a dealer you can trust, & has been in business for a long time etc. They will want either a fixed amount to run the paper work, some will do it for around $500.00 or just let them know how much you want for the car and they can mark up accordingly on their end etc.
