Watching your onboard was like a master class in getting around lapped traffic. I also appreciate your humble approach to the incident and I agree with you that even the slower guys should be out there getting in the laps in (that's how you learn) but the driver in the position of being lapped has to know that when they start being lapped to choose a lane and stay there. A lapped car moving from high to low right in front of you is absolutely not your fault.

That’s racing, I know tracks are not fare when they don’t have the staff to keep track of positions. The last half mile race at west capital race track was ours. Nobody could stay with the car like you tonight. We spun and they did not throw the yellow for 8 laps. We made them up and got knocked back to eighth place. Politics play in. A couple of weeks ago, you said you ran your first race on "pavement", this race might have been you first race on "ice". That was one slick race track with not much to grab onto anywhere. I know you like slick tracks so you got your wish, great job of driving. Not sure how that front axle didn't get bent with those two hits during your spin, but glad it didn't so you could keep going. Don't be too awful upset with the attempted slide job gone bad. You made the right decision based on what the other driver had been doing all along, had he not turned down, you would have been fine. Right decision, a different move on his part caused the problem, not your decision or driving. Too bad Willamette couldn't properly score things and run by the sanctioning rules, but such is life. You ended up 4th, you're healthy and the car rolled into the trailer. Not the worst night ever.

If they don't drive then they don't gain experience to get better. This isn't like road racing where you can do track days several times before you get to the real races where you still get 30mins or more of practice time before qualifying/racing. Besides, traffic makes the races exciting, regardless of whether the car is going 1 lap down or 10.

That was a robbing and half. I'm sure everyone there knew that you should've been starting at the restart in the front since they opened up the red for every one. Oh well that is the way things go sometimes I guess hopefully Willamette will work on that problem so that it won't happen again. I gotta also say/ask did anyone else notice some of that experience of running with the Outlaws a few weeks ago that Tanner did come out in this race? Look to me like you were aggressive when you needed to be patient at other times even when a slight bobble might have happened it seem like you let off a little took a quick calming breath then went right back to work on how to pick off the next soon to be laped car. I was starting to look forward to seeinbif you could tell us how many times that you laped the field. Anyways that was a fun race to watch none the less. The fact that you made it to lap 22 leading with the insane difference in speed of the lapped cars is impressive and shows great skills and patience. It was only a matter of time until the speed difference bit you. I don't think even the top 5 sprint car drivers in the country could have done any better, the speed difference was to great. Now if you would have known you had a 3/4 lap, 1/2 lap lead like you did, you could have backed off a ton but that's dirt track racing. Good job nonetheless.

Hey Tanner good run. What they need to do is give the flag man a flag,oh let's say blue with maybe a diagonal yellow stripe running through it.When the flag man waves that at you it means the leaders are behind you so they know when to get the hell out of the way.And...then they could maybe wave a black flag at them if they don't pay attention to the blue and yellow flag which would mean put it in the trailer for the night.I know it was only the limiteds but half of that field wasn't even going fast enough to set the car up for the turn, but then they want to race race with the leaders on the straights.Unreal I know you were probably fuming but thanks for taking time with the kids after the race.I know it means a lot to them !

Would be nice if the flagger would enforce the "move over" flag a bit more aggressively and could communicate which side of the track a slower driver should move to as no one can really see what's coming up behind them. Maybe just have that flag always mean move to the inside for sprint cars. Anyone who fails to move gets black flagged.
@jodyrolandconstruction65772 жыл бұрын
The “move over” flag isn’t a thing. There is a blue and yellow flag which signifies that the leaders are upon you and to hold your line. It’s the lead drivers responsibility to designate which side they pass on.

Hate to say it but that's just racing. Shame couldn't make it to the open red the crew could have let him know how fast he was and potentially could have been a bit more cautious with the lapped cars.
