A Wonderful Hike In Headwaters Reserve Elk River Trail, California

This video is about Headwaters Reserve Elk River Trail, California. The State of California plus the Federal Government came up of $480,000,000.00 to save the property from someone who wanted to cut the trees. The Headwaters Forest Reserve was established in 1999 after a decade-long grassroots effort to protect the world's last unprotected, intact old-growth redwood forest ecosystem. Several threatened species call Headwaters home, including coho salmon, the northern spotted owl and the marbled murrelet. Deep in the heart of the Headwaters old-growth forest are the beginnings or headwaters of the South Fork Elk River and Salmon Creek. This is how the area got its name.

That is a mindboggling about of money raised to save this property, but so glad they did, around the world nature as we know it is disappearing at an alarming rate, already our children have no idea odf the beauty we have witnessed, and further generations are only going to able to read about or see videos and photos of what has been lost. 👍👍

I am so glad the government stepped in to save the Headwaters Reserve. This is such a beautiful area. It was interesting to see some artifacts from the timber era left behind. I love trails like this that have signage to read about the history and nature of the area. It is fascinating that there used to be a town along the trail that is gone now. Thanks for taking us along for this hike!
